Position Purpose
The assistant coach is responsible for assisting with all aspects of an NCAA Division I Basketball program including, but not limited to, the identification and recruitment of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes; supporting the academic progress of student-athletes; preparing and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition; fostering the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes; organizing team and staff travel arrangements; facilitating administrative duties and paperwork; managing the distribution and ordering of team equipment and supplies; coordinating and administering men's basketball summer camps; and representing the sports program as needed in association with promoting and fundraising for men's basketball. |

Academics: Reinforce an environment of academic expectations, achievement, and success that supports and encourages academic progress and graduation, with an emphasis on applying programmatic policies and procedures that produce a positive APR score (i.e., an APR score that exceeds the scores associated with contemporaneous penalties). In a manner consistent with institutional academic integrity, the Assistant Coach agrees to direct all academic communication concerning the student-athletes through appropriate administrative and academic lines of communication as stipulated by departmental and university guidelines. Administration: Handle paperwork and related administrative responsibilities in a thorough, complete, and timely manner. Budget & Travel: Within the scope of authority, use university resources wisely, adhere to university and department fiscal procedures and practices. Coaching: Support efforts to ensure that team members are improving, developing, and progressing as athletes during their collegiate careers while demonstrating concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. Communication: Maintain effective, proactive, and responsive communication throughout the athletics program, while emphasizing relationships with the head coach, sport administrators, and support services. Compliance: Operate within an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations. Compliance-related activities and paperwork must be accomplished and/or submitted in a complete and timely manner. Public Relations: Cultivate and maintain effective relations with associations, conferences, alumni, media, civic groups, students, faculty, parents, and friends of the University; be an active participant in the public relations efforts for the athletics program and the University. Recruiting: Recruit student-athletes who can compete successfully on a level consistent with program expectations, and who can be successful in an academic environment and graduate from the university. Role Model: Be a professional representative of the university and a role model for student-athletes, the Department, and community. Sportsmanship: Reinforce a positive environment that encourages and supports sportsmanship, and ensure that public statements are supportive of the University and the Athletics Department. Student-Athlete Development: Contribute to the total development of the student-athletes in the program in a manner consistent with the educational values of the University. In addition to their athletic development, provide support and assistance to service units and student-athletes with regard to academic progress and graduation. Team Player: Be a positive team player. Set a positive example for the Department by supporting the mission and philosophy of the athletics program and the University. |
