Generic Scope
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Custom Scope
Supervises Student Life & Development Specialists and support staff, and administers a component of a Student Affairs or Student Life program. Independently oversees day-to-day operations, and determines goals and performance expectations of subordinates. Makes recommends concerning improvements of program/function to manager.

Department Custom Scope
Responsible for providing guidance and direction to the student organization team, including assistance with University recognition, recruitment, program and event planning, major event management, risk management, accessing University resources, understanding and negotiating University policies and procedures, organizational development, and enhancement. Additionally, provides leadership and active support to the Division of Student Affairs with campus-wide initiatives to enhance campus spirit and traditions that will cultivate more engaging activities and experiences outside of the classroom to enhance the student experience at UCR. This position will also take on large-scale programs/projects within the Student Organization Team. The Senior Coordinator will also assist at various departmental functions and events. This position will support the Student Life and ASPB mission, vision, and strategic plan, which focuses on social justice, leadership development, and creating a sense of belonging for students. The budgeted amount for this position is up to $65,000.

Recommends changes to program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Manages the Student Organization Team and Highlander Spirit and Traditions. Gives guidance and direction for the overall program implementation. Oversees all policies and procedures for student organizations, such as the annual registration process, manage insurance and risk processes, developing educational and development resources for student organizations.

Sets the direction and tone for the Student Organization team, which directly advises upwards of 500 student organizations, making sure the programs are aligned with the strategic plan of the Student Life office, within the area of Student Affairs, and on a campus-wide level. Provides ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student organizations and/or co-curricular programs. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student-generated field of interest and supports, guides, and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills. Provides advising for student organizations, including required check-in meetings, organization registration process, attending organization events, providing workshops, and impromptu advising as required. Help students enhance their leadership skills, develop a sense of belonging at UCR, offer meaningful activities, and expand students' understanding of social justice through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
