Department Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Governmental & Community Relations, the Advocacy & Community Engagement Manager supports the department's charge to build relationships, enhance the University's presence, and generates support for UC Riverside's mission of education, research and public service. Major areas of focus and responsibility include direct legislative advocacy, economic and regional development, community engagement, communications, public policy analysis, program and event coordination and research.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Projects include government and/or industry lobbying efforts.
  • Design and drive the external stakeholder engagement plan to expand and strengthen relationships with regional elected officials, county government program administrators, community-based organizations, advocacy groups, and industry and trade associations to advance the strategic goals and priorities for UCR. Manage stakeholder database.

Develops and implements programs, events and/or communication strategies designed to inform external constituencies of institutional programs, activities, policies, and practices; constituencies may include the general public, prospective students, parents, donors, campus and/or medical center visitors, government and/or community representatives.
  • Lead the coordination, communications, and logistics management of legislative meetings, advocacy days, and legislative engagement activities with staff, members of the administration, and key local, state and federal offices.

May research various topics and gather relevant data to inform unit strategic plans, keeping management informed as necessary and providing input as required.
  • Independently researches matters of interest pertaining to UCR's governmental and community relations for campus leadership, as well as community leaders, groups, elected officials and other external constituents who are vital in supporting UCR's mission and in conveying that mission to the Inland Empire.

Monitors and interprets federal and state legislation and/or proposed actions by city government.
