Department Custom Scope
The Senior Corporate Engagement Officer will be responsible to identify, pursue, execute, and steward funded collaborative research opportunities and industry partnerships for engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics related fields at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). This may include industry sponsored research, identifying and marketing of UCR intellectual property (IP) to prospective industry partners for licensing commercialization, philanthropy, and access to UCR core facilities, student engagement, and other university assets, as needed. Working within the Office of Technology Partnerships (OTP) team, the Senior Corporate Engagement Officer will assist in initiating, maintaining, and expanding partnerships by developing mutually beneficial strategic collaboration plans between industry partners and relevant stakeholders at UCR. The Senior Corporate Engagement Officer will play a key role of achieving the university?s goal to foster new, significant, long-term partnerships with industry, including supporting the Opportunity to Advance Sustainability Innovation and Social Inclusion (OASIS) initiative to drive regional economic development through solutions-driven applied research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development around sustainability, clean technology, and social inclusion. The Senior Corporate Engagement Officer will work to support the OTP team in identify meaningful opportunities for corporate investment, support, and collaboration, while maintaining strong internal relationships with university faculty, staff, and administrators who carry out UCR?s mission. The Senior Corporate Engagement Officer should be an experienced, customer-service oriented professional with the ability to communicate effectively and plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments. This position will report to the Director of Technology Commercialization (TC) as part of OTP within Research and Economic Development (RED) at UCR.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Degree in engineering (bio, chemical & environmental, computer science, electrical and computer, mechanical, materials science, robotics), physical sciences, or mathematics field. Preferred

Key Responsibilities

Plans and implements proactive outreach to potential industry partners, tailoring communications to explain how a strategic alliance with the University research program will serve their unique and custom needs. Facilitates outreach activities and bridges potential areas of interest.
  • Coordinates with OTP team for outreach to prospective regional, national, and international industry partners to include university intellectual property, research collaborations, philanthropy, and access to university core facilities, student engagement, and other university assets, as needed. Initiate, organize, and staff corporate visits on campus and at prospective partner locations.

Builds and cultivates relationships and ongoing communications with industry partners. Identifies ways to improve the relationship to meet partner needs and achieve alliance goals. Answers questions regarding financial and contractual obligations.

Analyzes partner and industry needs, recommending a strategy to expand the industry alliance program, services, and trainings. Launches improvements to programs through creating timelines and leading regular meetings to ensure project successfully meets goals.
  • Independently research companies and corporate engagement opportunities that align with university expertise and assets and work with OTP team to evaluate potential leads.

Engages prospective partnerships and coordinates meetings with university research program leadership to pitch forming an industry partnership.
  • Assists in preparing, writing, and editing proposals to pitch to prospective partners with input from OTP team and respective research faculty and/or program. Review and provide feedback within OTP team and faculty principal investigator for collaborative research scopes of work.

Expands existing partner agreements through analyzing partner needs and recommending ideas to grow the relationship. Implements initiatives to maximize the relationship.

Participates in comprehensive planning of complex, highly visible events involving influential members of the campus, community, government officials and media. Provides overall coordination for events, communicating with potential speakers about strategy and agendas.

Assists in developing marketing and communication plans to targeted academic, government, and industry relations communities. Manages contact distribution tools through campus system.

Effectively communicates and reports program status, direction, and recommendations to OTP leadership. Coordinates with broader OTP team and campus corporate relationship working group to ensure synergy of efforts and outcomes, and avoidance of duplicative efforts.
