Custom Scope
Using research compliance concepts, applies organization policies and procedures to review and/or pre-review moderately complex, minimal risk research protocols. Works independently in most cases without a great deal of supervision or oversight for routine or standard assignments. Occasionally pre-reviews or highlights potential issues of concern for department head or committee members to consider in their review of research protocols that qualify for full review.

Department Custom Scope
Under the supervision of the IACUC Office Manager, the Research Compliance Analyst 2 will work with members of the IACUC Office, OCV, and ancillary reviewers to ensure appropriate documentation procedures related to research with the use of animals. Conduct thorough and comprehensive reviews of submitted Animal Use Protocols (AUPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and related documents to confirm animal welfare is upheld and verify federal, state, and UCR policies are adhered to. Provide pre-review comments to faculty following review of submitted AUPs. Verify comments have been addressed and act as liaison between the IACUC and investigators. Be able to identify inconsistencies, departures, and issues of non-compliance by having basic understanding of the regulations that govern the use of animals for research. Prepare documents and agenda for IACUC meetings and take minutes for review and approval by the IACUC. Assist with Post-approval Monitoring (PAM) procedures by assisting with scheduling of the semiannual inspections. Maintain database for internal documents and catalog when appropriate. Additional duties may assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Applies research compliance professional concepts to review research protocols to ensure that all regulatory criteria are met as well as policies and/or regulations from the organization, the state and systemwide.
  • Conducts thorough and comprehensive pre-reviews of submitted applications by providing comments regarding necessary updates, edits, or revisions to investigators to ensure administrative issues have been addressed before review by the IACUC. Act as liaison between the IACUC and the investigators regarding AUP review and approval. Assist the IACUC by ensuring all documents are available for review.

Under general supervision, participates in pre-review and follow-up of full board committee protocols.
  • Provides administrative support to ORI functions and committee operations. Schedules committee meetings, prepares committee materials, maintains appropriate files for committee materials, takes minutes during committee meetings.

Manages the semiannual inspection scheduling process by coordinating with investigators to verify all locations that use animals are documented and visited semiannually or at another predetermined frequency. Documents when locations have been inspected and assists PAM personnel in ensuring locations are up to date.

Generates and analyzes reports of review and approval activities.
  • Manages Kuali database where AUPs are submitted ensuring all application are moving through the review process in streamlined fashion.

Communicates directly with investigators to resolve all concerns as identified during the review process.
  • Work with ancillary reviewers, OCV, and the IACUC Office in ensuring appropriate documentation is provided during review process of AUP.

Communicates with researchers and provides guidance on how to resolve particular issues of concern and meet requirements of external regulatory bodies and to properly document these actions in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
