Custom Scope
Serves as an expert or lead development professional in a specialized area such as major/principal gifts, gift planning or corporate/foundation relations, or a specific area that includes, or potentially includes, donors capable of making very significant contributions to a location. Maintains a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. May have authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures. May oversee the work of professional and support staff. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser specialization.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Sr. Executive Director, Central Programs, the Senior Director of Annual Giving will provide leadership, strategic direction, and planning for UC Riverside's Annual Giving (AG) unit, including oversight on design, implementation, and evaluating return on investment to maximize UCR's resources and expand the base of support for the University. The Senior Director will oversee comprehensive program planning for central team annual solicitation activities; develop and implement a multi-year/multi-channel approach to raising awareness and gifts for central priorities; actively engage partners in University Relations and Alumni Engagement to coordinate and leverage communication opportunities; and proactively seek strategic alignments with regional, college/unit, corporate, foundation, and gift planning teams to significantly increase financial support from alumni, parents, student, faculty/staff, and friends of the University. This is a three-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Serves as resource for assigned area of expertise, interacting with prospects, donors, staff and outside professionals to provide information, advice and counsel regarding assigned specialized program(s). May oversee the work of professional and support staff.
  • Design and execute an annual giving program that is clear in its expectations, consistent, and has demonstrable outcomes. The program will cover a variety of solicitation methods, including, direct mail, digital communications, and other creative uses of technology to increase total annual donations. The position oversees two professional annual giving staff members.

Analyzes needs and creates strategic and long-range plans for fundraising and other advancement programs and may have the authority to make commitments and precedent-setting decisions regarding program design, development, and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the understanding and application of analytical data and modeling scores to maximize return on solicitations and engagement/growth of donor base. Is committed to best practices on solicitation design, timing, and integration; serves as the final authority on content distribution.

  • The Senior Director will set annual dollar objectives, establish strategies to reach those objectives and monitor progress against those objectives.

  • Serves as the lead program strategist and manager overseeing all aspects of the central annual giving program. The incumbent will build annual comprehensive plans that incorporate natural connections and efficiencies with partners across University Advancement, throughout the campus and the community.

Serves as a thought-leader and collaborator with counterparts in Alumni Engagement, Regional Development, and Gift Planning to integrate and significantly expand donor outreach and engagement at UCR.
