Generic Scope
Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Supervises Student Academic Support Assistants. Monitors performance and ensures work quality. Provides feedback and guidance on department processes, University policies and systems. Identifies ways to improve service delivery to students. Contributes ideas to improve academic programs, courses and instruction.

Department Custom Scope
The Academic Intervention & Tutorial Assistance Program Coordinator develops and manages the Academic Intervention (Al) and Tutorial Assistance (TAP) Programs. The Academic Intervention (Al) Program targets undergraduate students who are struggling academically, failing to make satisfactory academic progress, and/or would like to improve their academic performance. Program addresses both academic and non-academic barriers to student's success and utilizes peer mentors to support students in the program. The Tutorial Assistance (TAP) Program is a campus-wide program that provides tutorial academic support in specific subject areas. The Coordinator leads a team of undergraduate student employees in providing effective tutoring to UCR's undergraduate population. The Coordinator directly supervises tutors who provide expertise, experience, and encouragement to students using a variety of in-person and multimedia methods to assist in the problem-solving within the context of a course assignment. The Coordinator reports to one of the Academic Resource Center's Assistant Directors.

Key Responsibilities

Delivers academic support programs to students to enhance academic success through group, one-on-one and course-based format of service for a wide range of learning issues in a discipline for a broad scope of academic courses (e.g.study and life skill workshops, lower division courses with a high "d", "f", withdrawal rates).

Makes hiring recommendations, participates in employee evaluation, provides coaching and counseling, and suggests corrective action.
  • Recruit, interview, select, and coach a team of Academic Student Employee (ASE) tutors and peer mentors each academic term. Supervise 35 tutors and 25 peer mentors.

May serve as department liaison for academic departments, college deans and chairs; ensures collaborative working relationships.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advising units, academic departments, and other student service units to assess student needs.

Trains assistants and provides guidance and direction on more complex issues.
  • Provide training for pedagogical skills to ASEs and implements training for program enhancement that would support the undergraduate student population.

Participates with system implementations and upgrades/enhancements; tests systems to ensure data integrity and/or system functionality.
  • Implement a schedule to run Accutrack reports (e.g., weekly.monthly, or quarterly) to assist with annual report. Be familiar with the (LASSI) Learning and Study Strategies Inventory to ensure the department is utilizing the latest model.

Ensures assistants provide timely and accurate information and program materials to students.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings with peer mentors and tutors to meet CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) accreditation.

Mentors undergraduate students to enhance intellectual and professional trajectories by coaching to specific learning styles and linguistic issues by following the CRLA guidelines for accreditation.

Analyzes, synthesizes and prepares teaching and learning materials/resources for undergraduate tutors and student users. Will also design a systematic approach for intake testing of under-prepared students.
