Custom Scope
Uses professional HR concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional to apply organization policies and procedures to resolve the full range of HR-related issues. Works on problems that are diverse and complex in scope, where analysis of situations require a review of a variety of factors. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day assignments with some guidance provided on new projects.

Department Custom Scope
This position reports under the umbrella of the office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Human Resources team, reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources for VCSA and Intercollegiate Athletics. This position manages the day-to-day human resource processes involving a varied assortment of employee types and levels within the Intercollegiate Athletics organization. Responsible for coordinating all personnel actions regarding recruitment, classification, equity, and retention to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, and campus regulations and best practices. Performs complex analysis related to HR, including retrieving data from campus systems, organizing, and validating data, and preparing various reports. Provides coordination of special HR related projects such as; annual performance management process, market equity, merit calls, or other campus initiatives related to HR. Manages employee files ensuring they are complete. Attends monthly Human Resources coordinator meetings (i.e. HROG, etc.) to stay abreast of HR policy and best practices and conveys to constituents, often providing training and serving as the organizational subject matter expert on HR matters. Other duties as assigned within the scope of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Serves as the Intercollegiate Athletics organization's Human Resources expert for HR systems, coordinate personnel actions for recruitment, reclassification, equity, and retention within the guidelines, regulations, and policies set forth by the organization's Internal Operating Procedures, VCSA Internal Operating Procedures, University policy, campus policy and guidelines, and state/federal regulations. Works closely with the VCSA/IA Director of Human Resources and CFAO to strategize on HR process improvement, ensuring effectiveness and efficiencies are maintained.

Advises all levels of managers, supervisors, and employees in developing job descriptions, resolving benefits issues, and providing guidance on compensation programs, personnel policies and procedures.
  • Conducts analysis and makes recommendations for requests related to classification, equity, and retention to the VCSA/IA Director of Human Resources and CFAO for final approval ensuring equity, past practices, internal procedures and regulations are in line with recommendation. Compiles comparison data for use in decision making from campus systems.

Prioritizes work assignments, conducts complex HR trends analyses and develops resulting recommendations.
  • Complex HR trends include but are not limited to: equity, organizational structure analysis, development and training, performance, policy interruption and guidance, and labor relations.

Counsels department managers and supervisors on employee and labor policies, procedures, and appropriate practices.
  • Research and advise for employee represented positions (CX) and non represented positions.

Reviews resumes and applications and interviews applicants for a full range of staff positions.
  • Provides oversight for the recruitment and selection of career, contract, limited, per diem, partial year career and student staff positions across Intercollegiate Athletics. May assist with the recruitment and selection process for the Administrative Deans Office.

Counsels employees concerning sensitive and difficult to resolve work-related problems and conducts termination interviews, providing feedback to management.
