Custom Scope
Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs complex large-scale fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. Results have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the "major gifts" or "corporate/foundation relations" level, including managing portfolios of donors capable of giving gifts of an agreed upon amount. May oversee work of professional and/or subordinate staff. May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal/external committees as a location representative. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each specialization.

Department Custom Scope
With a frontline focus, the Director for Regional and Pipeline Development will influence and implement strategies for high volume, mission-focused engagement and cultivation of new philanthropic donors and volunteers for UCR. Under the leadership of the Sr. Director for Regional and Pipeline Development, the Director will partner with University Advancement colleagues in annual giving, communications, alumni and volunteer engagement, gift planning, and major gifts to significantly build a pipeline of leadership annual gift and major gift activity in California and in an assigned region(s) as determined by the concentration of UCR's alumni, parents, and friends across the nation. The Director will manage a prospective donor portfolio of at least 150 individuals and organizations, roughly 75% of which will require engagement and qualification activity. The remaining 25% of the portfolio should consist of new or returning major gift donors in cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship; major gift prospects retained in the Regional and Pipeline Development portfolio will have multiple funding interests across UCR programs and/or be uniquely located in a region less frequently visited by unit/college major gift officers. The Director will activate the team's strategic plan to build the pipeline of major gift donors from initial discovery efforts, through qualification conversations, and ultimately by enacting a cultivation and solicitation strategy with a donor-centered approach. Success will be measured through a variety of metrics, including donor renewals, upgrades, and referrals to major gift partners; annual outreach attempts and visits; and an annual fundraising dollar goal. This is a three-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees. Campus presence required with hybrid accommodations.

Key Responsibilities

Develops and manages dynamic portfolio to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects for gifts in the agreed upon range. May include corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Manages an individual portfolio comprised of a combination of leadership level and major gift level prospective donors. Donors should express interest in making a charitable gift of $5,000 or more across multiple funding interests and/or located within an assigned region nationally.

Travels to and supports development activity at regional events; curates and conducts visits to donor clusters in assigned regions.

Recruits, trains, and supports key volunteers who assist in advancement efforts.
  • Coordinating with partners in alumni and volunteer engagement and communication, seeks to encourage philanthropic partners and volunteer fundraisers in alumni, parent, and other donor circles regionally and abroad. May help unit/college gift officers discover potential new advisory board members, mentors, and experiential learning opportunities.

Analyzes needs and assists in the creation of strategic plans for fundraising and other advancement programs.
  • Acts as a representative and leader among University Advancement partners to influence, design, build, enhance, implement, and grow programs that encourage deeper charitable relationships with donors across the nation and abroad.

  • Serves as team representative with central development program partners to determine or update top fundraising priorities; partners may include Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Undergraduate Education, Graduate Education, Study Abroad, and other special interest and affinity groups as assigned.

Ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met and implements program activities to achieve these goals. .
  • Responsible for meeting pre-determined goals and metrics in areas including but not exclusive to donor renewals, upgrades, and referrals to major gift partners; annual outreach attempts and visits; and annual fundraising dollar goals in leadership annual giving and major gifts. Additionally, must meet expectations for timely and accurate record-keeping to inform activity reports and prospect development strategies.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts. Required
Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of Internet for data gathering purposes. Required

Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in line with institutional goals; proven success closing major gifts ($50,000+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
