Position Information

Working within the Staff Experience unit as part of the Strategic Operations division, the HR Generalist 3 will serve as an integral part of the Human Resources/Staff Experience team for UCR University Extension, the continuing education arm of the University of California, Riverside. The position is responsible for a variety of HR functions in support of organizational human resource management for staff, student staff, and by-agreement instructors through responsibilities in the development, implementation, administration, analysis and evaluation of human resource programs and procedures. The HR Generalist 3 carries responsibilities, advises and provides consultation to leadership and unit directors/supervisors regarding work force planning, compensation, classification, full cycle recruitment, performance management, HR policy interpretation and compliance, and professional development. The HR Generalist 3 also carries responsibilities in employee and labor relations, disability accommodation, leave administration, and provides analyses of human resources data and reporting, as needed. The HR Generalist 3 is responsible for a high degree of collaboration and coordination in the delivery of HR services to support the University Extension organization through planning with organizational units/divisions, Citrus Shared Service Center, and Central Human Resources. The position uses HR concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional to apply organization policies and procedures to resolve the full range of HR-related issues. Works on problems that are diverse and complex in scope, where analysis of situations require a review of a variety of factors. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day assignments with some guidance provided on new projects.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Advanced degree in related area. Preferred

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (CP) Preferred
California Public Employers Labor Relations Association (CALPELRA) Labor Relations Academy Masters Certification (CLRM) Preferred
Professional (PHR) or Senior Professional (SPHR) in Human Resources Preferred

Experience

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.
Thorough knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources.
Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and/or other related business software programs and systems.
Demonstrated analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.
Skilled in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated skill in prioritizing competing work assignments, employing political acumen and integrating information to determine appropriate courses of action and their implications.
Ability to independently gather and analyze data and perform sound judgment and decision making.
Ability to extract data from systems and the ability to analyze, validate and prepare consolidated reports using tools such as pivot tables and formulas within Microsoft Excel.
Ability to organize work, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Skill in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to display initiative and remain flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Ability to perform accurate, detailed work.
Ability to foster a respectful, cooperative, professional and courteous environment, maintain confidentiality, and employ tact and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas.

Knowledge of UC/UCR Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and other related business software programs and systems.
