Position Information

The Coordinator for New Student Programs will provide direction, guidance, and support to the Highlander Orientation and New Student Programs in the Student Life Office. Highlander Orientation for first-year students consists of up to 13 two-day sessions during July-August and up to 7 one-day sessions for transfer students in September and December. These are mandated orientation programs for all undergraduate students. New Student Programs include a First-Year Mentor Program and additional targeted programs for transfer and commuter students. The coordinator will oversee various aspects of the Highlander orientation program, which may include the implementation of the student, or family orientation program, provide guidance and support for the recruitment, selection, and training of the student orientation staff. This position will also support general Student Life functions and events as needed. This position will support the Student Life office's mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Strong knowledge of new student programs and the needs of first-year students, transfer students, and commuter students.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
