Position Information

The Office of TRIO Programs is recruiting for 3 Upward Bound High School Coordinators (HSC). The Office of TRIO Programs provides pre-college programs that aim to prepare and motivate high school students to pursue a higher education. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, the High School Coordinator (HSC) travels to target high schools to meet with program participants. The HSC assists in the planning and coordination of events such as field trips, Saturday Sessions, and the summer program. The HSC will initiate the recruitment of, select, train, and oversee the High School Mentors (Tutors). In addition, the HSC will assist with the creating of all High School Transcript Evaluations. The incumbent will have an integral part assisting the Assistant Director with the recruitment of all program participants. The TRIO Programs are federally funded through 5-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education. The Upward Bound grants are currently in year 1 of 5. The budgeted salary amount for this position is up to $47,800.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, and sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
Experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged and academically at-risk students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education.
Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
Knowledge of higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, plan, and help coordinate educational programs that meet specific needs for program participants, per federal grant objectives.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with diplomacy and tact.
