Position Information

The Director of Human Resources for Student Affairs serves as the lead HR professional for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs (VCSA)(Org 25) and Intercollegiate Athletics (Org 38) organizational units. Reporting to the VCSA Chief of Staff/ Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, this position serves as the primary human resources representative providing collaborative and coordinated delivery of HR services to support the organizational objectives and strategies of the units. Responsible for serving as the subject matter expert providing human resources executive advisory support and recommendations and anticipating organizational HR needs for unit leadership. Works with central campus HR and organizational leadership to develop integrated solutions to complex problems ensuring implementation of leading best practices. Additionally, position is responsible for coordination and delivery of HR services including implementation of systemwide and organizational unit level initiatives. As the lead, this position manages the daily operations of the unit including distribution and balancing of work assignments, identifies training and development needs for unit staff and services as the point of contact for the unit with regard to general administrative matters and processes. This position serves as the liaison with the our Payroll Shared Services for payroll related items. The expected salary is between $84,100 to $139,150.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Masters degree in a related field. Preferred

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or PHR Preferred
SHRM-CP, CCP Preferred

SPHR, SHRM-CP, CCP, or CALPELRA master certification Preferred

Experience

6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.
Makes decisions regarding work assignments and scheduling of subordinates.
Working knowledge of personnel policies and applicable laws and regulations.
Communicates effectively with a diversity of communication styles.
Knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures including employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources as well as organizational initiatives relating to and/or impacting human resources.
Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel.
Strong analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.
Maintains an understanding of the unit goals and how this position supports those goals.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills and experience in mediation, negotiation, and conflict management skills.

Advanced interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in order to present complex information.

Has working knowledge of the university's HR information systems.

Knowledge of UC and UCR policies and guidelines
