Position Information
Assignments at this level typically involve a fairly representative cross-section of the situations encountered by an advocate. Fully experienced in working with survivors of sexual and relationship violence and or stalking in an atmosphere that may require making quick judgment calls. Assists survivors in locating resources to assist them with the specifics of their situation. Publicizes efforts through outreach campaigns targeted to diverse campus audiences. The department is hiring two CARE Advocates. The hiring budget for this position is up to $70,000 based on candidate qualifications.

Minimum Requirements
Exercises professional judgment and the flexible use of advocacy skills.
Ability to work with individuals who have experienced a sexual or domestic violence issue.
Knowledge of the U.S. Department of Education?s Office of Civil Rights/Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, Clery Act, CA Victim's Rights Laws, and The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, and other relevant legislation and reports.
Organizational and planning skills to achieve progress on multiple, simultaneous projects, to meet deadlines and to maintain a high level of productivity in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Ability to change focus and manage interruptions effectively; answer immediate victim/survivor requests.
Strong experience with computer programs used in the university such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, case tracking systems and other key programs necessary to perform the requirements of the position.
Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.
Incumbent must report to a qualified counselor as defined by California Evidence Code section 1035.2(a)(1).
Interpersonal skills and political acumen to work effectively within and outside of the university system in developing relationships and programs to address programmatic issues and needs. Experience cultivating and sustaining ongoing collaborative relationships with a wide array of constituents (staff, faculty, students, community members, and with campus and community organizations) in order to accomplish goals.
Strong skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately.
Demonstrated experience managing complex and difficult decisions when university policy is ambiguous, there is latitude for usage of judgment, or the client?s reaction to advocacy methods may be less predictable. Ability to recognize complex cases that may require transferring to an advocate with more experience.
Communication skills to prepare and deliver presentations and to prepare written reports, correspondence, proposals, program assessments, email and other materials for a variety of audiences ensuring compliance with departmental and university guidelines, practices and principles.
Experience in public speaking, training, and facilitating curriculum and services in front of diverse audiences.
