Campus Fire Inspector

Position Information

Under the general supervision of the Campus Fire Marshal, the incumbent is responsible for performing professional duties related to fire and life safety, as part of a multi-disciplinary professional/technical staff. The Campus Fire Inspector ensures that the campus is in compliance with State codes and regulations applicable to fire safety buildings and equipment, including Titles 8, 9, 19, 24, et.al. of the California Code of Regulation. In addition, the incumbent will ensure compliance with applicable national standards related to fire safety including the National Fire Protection Association Standards. Performs required inspections of fire extinguishing systems on Campus, including but not limited to: Fire alarm systems, automatic fire sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, standpipe systems, fixed extinguishing systems, and fire protective signaling systems fire rated assemblies testing and inspection.

The salary range for the Campus Fire Inspector is $68,500 - $123,900 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $90,000 annually. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is ten weeks after their first date of employment.

Ability to operate University vehicles for business and operational needs. Required
Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required
Must be available for on-call emergencies. Required

Minimum Requirements

Thorough knowledge and ability to apply the principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression theory and their application to a wide variety of situations.
Thorough knowledge/understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.
Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.
Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Thorough knowledge and ability to apply the principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression services program development and administration.
Thorough knowledge in the methods and techniques of fire scene investigation activities.
Thorough knowledge and ability to apply the principles and practices of fire inspection and code enforcement.
Thorough knowledge and ability to apply the principles and practices of fire prevention education.
Advanced working knowledge of Title 19, California Code of Regulations, California Building Code, California Fire Code, and National Fire Protection Association Standards. Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, regulations including EPA regulations pertaining to hazardous materials management.
Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
Demonstrated organizational and scheduling skills to coordinate different projects with varying timelines.
