Department Custom Scope
Serve as the Associate Director to the Chief of Staff to the Dean/Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives by partnering with appropriate leadership, faculty, staff, campus and community constituents to coordinate, execute and maintain effective engagement for the School of Medicine. Work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary, team-oriented Strategic Initiatives unit of the School of Medicine. Serve as primary point person for interactions with the School of Medicine community advisory and other affinity groups. Compose and disseminate briefings and communications on the School of Medicine for internal and external audiences and functions. Independently undertake a variety of special projects in support of the School's strategic planning and positioning. Promote the interests of the School of Medicine and strengthen advocacy efforts. Work with supervisor to develop and implement engagement strategy for community advisory and other affinity groups to increase participation, effectiveness and personal connection to the School of Medicine among community leaders; Attend selected external functions on behalf of the Dean and other senior leadership. Provide representation and visibility for the School of Medicine and work to establish and strengthen meaningful relationships on behalf of the School; Participate actively as a member of the unit team to support initiatives to expand philanthropic support for the School of Medicine; Advise School of Medicine departments with development and implementation of community engagement strategies in alignment with overall School strategy; Collaborate in the development of advocacy strategy for the medical school as needed. Coordinate with the campus Governmental and Community Relations office, to expand relationships with community leaders and elected officials on behalf of the School; Represent the School of Medicine with selected community organizations focused on issues that align with the core mission of the medical school (e.g., educational outreach, economic development). Actively participate in organizational efforts and strive to cultivate meaningful connections on behalf of the School of Medicine.

Provide high-level logistical and writing support to School of Medicine leadership for strategic planning documents, concept papers and prospectuses; Research and prepare for review executive-level documents and reports, conducting analytical studies and data collection as needed; Respond as needed to requests from campus leadership and external constituencies for information and accountability reporting; Prepare applications, nominations or other submissions for special awards recognizing faculty excellence and School accomplishments; Serve as institutional liaison to the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) and similar organizations relevant to the medical school's national profile, including coordinating response to information requests relevant to national rankings. Work with appropriate faculty and staff within the School of Medicine to ensure accurate, coordinated and timely response; Other special projects as assigned.

Contribute to school wide communications campaigns and advise departments within the School of Medicine on targeted communications campaigns as needed (e.g., student, faculty and executive recruitment materials, new and existing program promotions, outreach campaigns); Work with appropriate School of Medicine leadership, faculty, staff, campus and community constituents to develop, execute and expand an effective external communications strategy for the School; Write captivating and targeted copy including announcements, engagement pieces, op-eds and special interest pieces for both internal and external audiences; Partner with UCR campus and UC systemwide external communications offices as necessary to promote and communicate the interests of the School of Medicine; Collaborate with Digital Communications Coordinator on special projects and initiatives related to web communications as needed; Prepare, on short notice when necessary, briefings, presentations and speeches for School of Medicine leadership including the Dean and Senior Associate/Associate Deans for internal and external audiences and functions. Staff the Dean and members of leadership at external functions as needed; Draft internal and external communications for the Dean and, as needed, respond to external inquiries on the Dean's behalf in collaboration with the Chief of Staff/Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives; Respond to general inquiries about the School of Medicine.
