Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Assistant Executive Director, the Communications/Marketing Manager is assigned primary responsibility for developing and executing a comprehensive strategic communications plan and crafting messages for alumni marketing communications designed to increase awareness of Alumni & Constituent Relations and the UCR Alumni Association. S/he will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a website and managing various social media platforms designed to engage, inform and connect alumni, students, parents and other constituents to the university's mission and alumni/advancement priorities. This position will support a wide range of marketing and communications activities including targeted marketing programs, event advertising, promotional materials, and content development. Other responsibilities include participating on committees; providing advice and counsel to staff in areas relating to online communications and social media; and tracking analytics.

Researches, analyzes, monitors and evaluates marketing and/or sales efforts for effectiveness, reporting results to appropriate higher levels of administration.

Coordinates design, production and distribution of publications and other promotional materials, including internet or web materials, press releases, advertisements, catalogs, brochures, flyers, signage, A/V presentations, displays, exhibits, et cetera.

Coordinates advertising placement and schedules.

Establishes and maintains contacts with internal and external marketing professionals and vendors; e.g., artists, designers, photographers, mailing houses, postal service, list brokers, advertising representatives, media contacts, et cetera.

Builds relationships with outside (non-campus and / or medical center affiliated) companies and organizations.

Develop and execute a strategic communications plan and calendar to engage, inform and connect alumni, students, parents and other constituents to the university's mission and alumni/advancement priorities. In collaboration with the Office of Strategic Communication, develop content, design, create, and maintain a dynamic alumni website highlighting alumni programming, initiatives, events and UCR's reputation. Serve as a liaison between the Alumni office and Strategic Communications on project requests, Class Acts, alumni profiles, and promotional materials. Ensure accurate and timely information is highlighted on alumni and constituency websites. Establish guidelines for design continuity. Produce e-newsletters for alumni and parents and schedule emails distributed. Conceptualize, write, edit and manage content and event announcements for e-newsletters, print publications, and multi-media projects. Maintain contact with sources in the colleges, departments and centers to obtain relevant information to highlight alumni achievements and promote UCR initiatives through social media, online presence, and e-newsletter.

Manage various social media forums including: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchap, etc. Develop and execute planned social media campaigns. Identify social media best practice. Write copy and accept submissions from alumni staff to post relevant information to Alumni blog, website and social media platforms. Collaborate with Strategic Communications and the Annual Fund on the coordination of posts and messaging. Liaison to social media vendors, designers, and programmers. Builds relationships with outside companies and organizations.

Develop annual communications budget. Assist in staffing campus-wide events such as Commencement and Homecoming. Coordinate video projects with the Office of Strategic Communications and assist with the technical aspects of presentations.
