Custom Scope
Independently oversees a comprehensive communications program for a unit or school with moderately complex communications requirements. The communications program usually includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. Works with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy. Designs and implements information campaigns.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Creative Services, the Marketing Coordinator will help support the strategic planning, branding, marketing and communication services offered by the Office of Strategic Communications. This position will support a range of marketing and communications activities including campaign communications, targeted marketing programs, event advertising, campus promotional materials, direct marketing campaigns, website organization, SEO and content development, and support for video and photography. In addition, this position will help coordinate and support a university-wide integrated marketing program, including branding and identity, market research, and strategic message development.

Key Responsibilities

Works with management and clients to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communications plans and/or projects.
  • Help determine appropriate advertising concepts and placement based on market research, monitor analytics. Assist Executive Director in providing communications, marketing and research consulting services for individual schools and major campus initiatives. As funding permits, assist in implementing regular market research to test validity and impact of key marketing messages.

Manages comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications.
  • Support development of collateral materials for special events including major campus events (such as Homecoming , Commencement), international travel, donor recognition and campaign-related events (regional and national). On occasion, assist in staffing special events.

Advises and consults with departmental/college administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution.
  • Provide direction and support to campus units that promotes adherence to brand messages, themes and graphic design standards. Conceptualize, write, edit and manage content for print publications, video production and multi-media projects. Work with clients to coordinate the creative development process and manage production schedules for marketing and development communications vehicles.

Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.
  • Coordinate and manage freelance photography and videography contracts, provide on-site art direction, support and coordinate shoot logistics, etc.

Work with campus clients to identify and reinforce overall web strategy/SEO, to organize/architect sites, to write and develop multimedia content, to review/edit comps and to coordinate design and programming process. Help identify social media best practices, develop and contribute content in support of campus social media platforms, monitor analytics. Help develop, manage and update content for UCR umbrella site (including homepage) and other key administrative sites for senior leadership. Help support development of strategy and content for UCR campaign site. Help coordinate projects involving freelance web writers, designers, programmers.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Required
Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. Preferred
Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health sciences. Preferred
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. Required
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to target and/or broad general audiences. Required

Knowledge of principles and practices of communications and marketing programs that compliment major gift fund raising programs. Preferred
Experience in coordinating publications from concept to finished product, including writing, editing, proofreading, fact checking, and adhering to production schedules. Required
Demonstrated experience with social media best practices. Required
Strong organizational and time management skills; with ability to work successfully as part of a communications office team. Required
