Custom Scope
Independently oversees a comprehensive communications program for a unit or school with moderately complex communications requirements. The communications program usually includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. Works with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy. Designs and implements information campaigns.

Department Custom Scope
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and contributing to a comprehensive communications program for the University Library.

  • Develops, implements and contributes to a comprehensive communications program for the University Library. Advises and consults with departmental/college administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution.
  • Advises and consults with Library Administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation and problem resolution.

Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.

Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.

Manages the social media communications strategy for the University Library and provides guidance on best practices.

Maintains knowledge of current industry trends and performs continuous assessment of innovative methodologies, technologies and approaches. Identifies opportunities for improvement and communicates them to University Library leadership.

Composes publications and other high impact communications on behalf of Library Administration. Manages the University Library newsletter; serves as editor; solicits and composes content.

Provides oversight of University Library advancement communications; develops protocols for donor interaction and gift acknowledgment; composes donor relations communications.

Generates a variety of reports including collections reports, endowment reports and the University Library's annual report.

Develops, and ensures consistent implementation of, protocol for internal events.

Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Required
