Department Custom Scope
Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Assessment and Education, the Biostatistician will provide statistical programming and analysis support to research, education, and clinical projects for the School of Medicine. This position requires strong analytic, problem solving, and programming skills to analyze and interpret a variety data from multiple sources. She/he will assist in data collection and sampling strategies; design, plan, and execute statistical analysis; utilize univariate and multivariate statistical procedures; perform complex data analysis (including but not limited to: time-series; hierarchical/multi-level modeling; mediation analysis); derive logical consistency checks; review manuscripts; and ensure accurate interpretation of results. The individual will work with the scientific team and other investigators on multiple research projects, and will summarize results for presentation. She/he will participate in writing as well as manuscript preparation. The Biostatistician's role in analysis and manuscript preparation will be acknowledged with authorship according to their effort. In addition to their research roles, the successful applicant will teach Biostatistics and Epidemiology to Medical Students and Residents.

Performs complex research and studies for a variety of internal department constituents.
  • Manages analysis proposals and data distribution for co-investigators wishing to utilize datasets, and will act as the liaison between UCRSOM and other interested parties by providing results and/or raw data for analyses. Serves as a resource to those within the lab (MDs, postdoctoral fellows, data managers, analysts and graduate students) and co-investigators outside the lab by consulting on statistical methodology, interpretation of results and the use of statistical software.

May supervise data entry, database management and research analysis of students, support staff and/or lower level analysts.

Participates in the preparation and writing of manuscripts for scientific peer review journals. The Biostatistician's role in analysis and manuscript preparation will be acknowledged with authorship according to their effort.

Develops, and delivers instruction on Biostatistics & Epidemiology. Designs, develops, and administers assessments to Medical Students and Residents on Biostatistics & Epidemiology. Grades students assessment performances, and works with designated faculty and staff to best support students who struggle with Biostatistical and Epidemiological material.
