Department Custom Scope
The Residency Development Coordinator will assist medical students in the UCR School of Medicine with career plans in their selected specialty or developing alternate career plans, applying for residency programs, advising on residency program requirements and providing student support for medical students. Tracks post-residency process where students matched, applied and re-located. Prepares students for and oversees the Post-Match Supplemental Offer & Acceptance Program (SOAP) process for unmatched medical students. The incumbent will be the main point of contact for the Careers in Medicine program, including assisting medical students on program requirements and providing student support services relevant to the application process. Works with the Student Affairs team to help organize and carry out major events and activities such as Recruitment Day, Orientation Week, graduation ceremonies and various wellness events.

  • Assists students with navigating FREIDA, ERAS, NRMP and other sites to better inform their selections for residency.

Exercises professional judgment in reviewing, evaluating, and recommending applicants for admission using established guidelines.
  • Assists all students with accurately assessing their competitiveness for their selected specialties locally, regionally and nationally using established metrics. Supports students with creating parallel plans, as needed, and with planning for alternate career plans. Compiles UCR School of Medicine specific data to help inform future cohorts.

Consults with experienced level staff or faculty when reviewing more complex applications.
  • Works closely with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs with the preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE). Assists with collecting the evaluation data, ensuring its accuracy, writing drafts and reviewing the content for final revision of the documents prior to the October 1 national release deadline. Assists with implementing a system that can be replicated in future years to increase efficiency and decrease the time required in compiling multiple MSPE documents.

Responds to inquiries from prospective students regarding entrance requirements, application procedures, financial aid availability, housing alternatives, etc.
  • Provides advice to prospective, new and continuing medical students on residency program requirements and student support services. Counsels students and designated significant others in person, telephone, email or mail. Interprets and communicates policies, procedures and guidelines. Monitors compliance; makes referrals to Director or appropriate Deans as needed.

Performs recruitment activities, including writing or editing materials, and representing the school/college/department at admissions events and other forums.
  • Main point of contact for Careers in Medicine program for faculty, students and staff. Coordinate regular, military, early and couples matches. Creates, coordinates and implements a process for obtaining specialized letters or letters of recommendation from chairs of each department for the MATCH. Provides information to assist students with preparing for a parallel plan for their specialty choice. Provides support for the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) for unmatched students.

Provides staff support for the Careers in Medicine program for the UCR School of Medicine, including assisting medical students on program requirements and provides student support services relevant to application process. Develops and maintains system to accurately track and report student academic and extracurricular information. Maintains accurate student files and database of student formative and summative evaluations and performance summaries. Collects and maintains student record information. Compiles and interprets statistical data and prepares reports on student retention, performance, attrition, and advancement to 3rd and 4th year. Assists with AAMC graduation survey collection. Organizes and maintains up-to-date and accurate medical student portfolios by working with the education team as well as clerkship faculty and administration in preparing for specialty careers and alternative options. Prepares students for and oversees Post-Match Supplemental Offer & Acceptance Program (SOAP) process for unmatched medical students.

Tracks student specialty interest and ultimate career choice during medical school. Tracks post-residency process where students matched, applied and re-located.
