Department Custom Scope
The Counseling Psychologist III provides psychological services to the UCR campus. The primary responsibility of the Counseling Psychologist is to provide individual, couple, and group therapy to UCR students. The Counseling Psychologist also provides crisis intervention services; consults with students, staff, and faculty; provides intern supervision/training; makes presentations; and serves on University committees.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Performs diagnosis and psychotherapy on a full range of cases that are not pre-screened.
  • Provision of Direct Clinical Services: Provides time-limited individual, couple, and group therapy services for registered UCR students experiencing complex, serious psychological disturbance and developmental concerns. Refers clients to specialty psychological/psychiatric and other mental health related services on and off campus.

Gathers, analyzes, prepares, summarizes and monitors the status and progress of individual cases and projects and may participate in the training of lower-level professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Actively participates in the UCR Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Internship Program and in continuous professional development and training of clinical staff. May include direct supervision of psychology interns.

Implements related business processes.
  • Clinical Documentation and Case Management: Completes accurate and concise clinical documentation for all clinical contacts in compliance with ethical and professional standards and Quality Assurance policies. In compliance with CAPS policies and procedures, manages caseload appropriately.

Other duties as assigned which include but not limited to program management and special liaisons, special projects.

Outreach, program management, and liaison services: Provides active and visible outreach and consultation services to the UCR campus. Actively participates in mental health outreach programs in areas of specialty and in response to campus needs. Consults with students, staff, faculty, administration, parents, etc. in areas of expertise and in response to concerns about students. Serves as a liaison to various departments on campus. May serve on University committees.

Supports students and UC Riverside community in consultation and triage as part of crisis walk in services (4 hours/week). Provides support during campus crises/challenges, provides occasional support for other UC campuses per reciprocity within system, crisis debrief and other related crisis support services. Provides support and evaluation for students requiring mental health hospitalization and follow up.

Special Condition Requirement
Ongoing mantenance of valid licensure as a psychologist in California, successful completion and maintenance of valid credentialing & privileging process pursuant to UC systemwide requirements. Required

Other Special Requirements & Conditions
  • Occasional evening and weekend work hours and an expectation of availability after hours to serve the occasional emergent needs of students and campus challenges/crises.
