Department Custom Scope
Serves as the Athletic Trainer for the Club Sports Program (23 club teams) under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation Competitive Sports & Club Sports in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and care of all club sport related injuries. Establishes a minimum standard of care for concussions or mild traumatic brain injuries including athlete education/risk factors, baseline testing, and return to play protocol with medical oversight from licensed healthcare clinician. This is a 2 year career appointment with the possibility of being continued based upon available funding.

Applies professional concepts to provide the full range of prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by means of protective and therapeutic wrappings and use of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques.

Provides intercollegiate and sports club athletes with complex, advanced injury prevention training, and evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Initiates injury evaluation, recognition, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injured Club Sport athletes.

Administers first-aid to athletes. Provides advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Provide adequate Athletic Training services at practices and games. May include some travel with club sport teams, as needed.

May maintain athletic training facilities and equipment, ensuring all athletic equipment is fully operational and athletic training rooms are maintained according to standards.

Works in a collaborative manner and organizes and prioritizes work assignments, conducts analysis relating to programs and operational procedures and develops resulting recommendations.

Create, manage and maintain a comprehensive concussion management plan for club sport athletes and campus recreation participants with medical oversight from treating licensed clinician. Educate high impact club sport teams, athletes, coaches and staff on the aspects of concussion: prevention, mechanism, recognition and referral, appropriate return to participation, physical and cognitive restrictions for concussed athletes, and ramifications of improper concussion management. Create a method of documentation for the athletes understanding of concussive signs and symptoms and their responsibility to report a concussion. Assist in the development of a return to play protocol for concussed athletes. Ensure proper documentation of the concussion evaluation, management, treatment, return to participation progression and physician communications. Manage and administer baseline testing to all high impact Club Sport athletes and oversee post injury assessments. Develop with Student Health a standard concussion home-instruction form to be used consistently for all concussed athletes. Identify and adopt standard practice limitations and guidelines to establish the standard of care for managing concussions and other brain injuries.
