Custom Scope
Applies professional concepts and department and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve systems problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Performs routine work, with detailed instructions provided on new project and / or more complex assignments and initiatives. Within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the System Administrator is responsible for supporting the configuration, installation, maintenance and ongoing support of various servers, systems and technologies that are housed at the offsite data center. Works collaboratively with others in the department and leadership to provide back-end systems and application support for business applications. Typical responsibilities include installation and configuration of operating systems and application software, availability and performance monitoring, testing, troubleshooting and developing detailed documentation. Will assist in the support of related incidents or outages.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Implements system enhancements, such as software, hardware and network configuration, updates and installations for projects or services with moderate scope.
  • Provides support for the infrastructure group's Unix and Windows server systems. Responsibilities include: hardware and network provisioning and installation, OS installation, server maintenance and updates, system security, installation and maintenance of application software, data center equipment management, monitoring and maintenance of system backups, configuration management, and other system issues as they arise.

Manages systems and services for a facility or portion of facility of small to moderate size. Evaluates, installs, modifies and supports operating systems, databases, utilities and web-related tools. Implements system rollouts. May perform basic networking tasks to interconnect servers or components of clusters for communication.

Writes and executes moderately complex scripts in support of systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple systems.

Assists with execution of security controls to prevent unauthorized access to networked resources. Administers security policies to control system access. Configures system security to meet specific needs.
