Custom Scope
Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs complex large-scale fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. Results have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the "major gifts" or "corporate/foundation relations" level, including managing portfolios of donors capable of giving gifts of an agreed upon amount. May oversee work of professional and/or subordinate staff. May attend functions, meetings and serve on internal/external committees as a location representative. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each specialization.

Department Custom Scope
UC Riverside's Gift Planning Office is responsible for charitable gift planning, deferred giving, trusts, real estate gifts and estate distributions. Under the general direction of the Sr. Director of Development for Gift Planning, the Director of Gift Planning is responsible for planning, managing and implementing strategies and tactics for planned giving donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The position coordinates with and supports college -based planned giving efforts. Position requires specialized training and knowledge for financial, gift and estate planning, and current knowledge of tax legislation and changes that affect the gift planning process. Responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating a comprehensive gift planning marketing campaign under the supervision of the Sr. Director.

Develops and manages dynamic portfolio to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects for gifts in the agreed upon range. May include corporate and foundation prospects.
  • Independently develop and manage portfolio of gift planning prospects from identification through development of strategies for cultivation and solicitation. Engage volunteers, faculty and/or senior administrators to participate in solicitation as appropriate.

Recruits, trains, and supports key volunteers who assist in advancement efforts.
  • Organize and direct donor solicitation involving key volunteers and academic leaders and participate in gift planning solicitations as appropriate. Enlist the involvement of the faculty, Deans, college based development colleagues, and other senior UCR administrators in their contact with volunteers and prospective donors. Encourage the active participation of gift planning donors and volunteers to ensure their constant awareness of current needs and objectives.

Plan, organize, and implement donor recognition program for all new gift planning donors, which includes responsibility for supporting The Watkins Society program, a major annual event for UC Riverside's honor society for gift planning and estate gift donors.

Provide consultation and direction to development staff across campus in developing solicitation strategies using gift planning techniques.

Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of Internet for data gathering purposes. Required
Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution and evaluation. Required
Advanced oral and interpersonal communication skills, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism and discretion in order to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution goals and closing planned gifts, both local and national. Required
Experience supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns in higher education. Preferred
