Custom Scope

Plans, schedules, and implements moderate-sized, comprehensive fundraising and alumni relations projects and programs, including specific fundraising programs such as annual fund, alumni relations, research, etc. May coordinate and oversee the work of support staff and/or other professionals. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser specialization.

Department Custom Scope
Under the leadership of the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development and directly reporting to the Senior Director of Development for campus-wide initiatives, UC Riverside seeks a motivated, energetic, innovative, collaborative, and knowledgeable individual to assume the position of associate director of development for research centers & institutes (ADoD-RCI). The individual in this position will develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to grow the philanthropic pipeline and secure leadership major gifts in support of campus-wide research centers. UCR's research centers and institutes offer students and faculty opportunities to collaborate on pioneering research across disciplines and colleges. This position will help raise philanthropic support for nationally recognized interdisciplinary research centers such as the Center for Advanced Neuroimaging (CAN), the College of Engineering's Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), and the Center for Geospatial Sciences (CGS), the Stem Cell Center, and the Brain Games Center. The ADoD-RCI will identify and manage a group of approximately 150 prospects for major gifts. This will include local and some regional travel for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The ADoD-RCI will arrange appropriate opportunities for key research faculty and academic leaders to meet with potential donors, and will work collaboratively with other University Advancement colleagues to achieve fundraising goals. The ADoD-RCI will work closely with the vice chancellor for research and economic development and the administrative cabinet to plan and execute research center fundraising strategy as part of UC Riverside's $300 million comprehensive campaign, which runs through 2020.

  • Devise and oversee the implementation of personalized methods for recognizing and maintaining ongoing contact with current/past donors to ensure donor retention. Maintain donor data with the highest regard for confidentiality and detail using Raisers's Edge software. Develop detailed gift opportunities tailored to the interests of potential donors. Encourage the active participation of donors and volunteers to ensure their awareness of current needs and objectives of the University.

Experience with Raiser's Edge or other constituent databases. Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of Internet for data gathering purposes. Preferred
Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution goals and closing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national. Required
Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution, and evaluation. Required
General knowledge of the various types of charitable gifts, including, in-kind gifts, planned giving, gifts of securities, and gifts of real property. Required
