Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on matters of some significance to the accounting organization.

Department Custom Scope
The UC Riverside Foundation is a nonprofit corporation [a 501(c)(3)] through which philanthropic resources flow to UCR. The Director-Controller, UC Riverside Foundation (DC-UCRF) supports the efforts of the Foundation in meeting the needs of the campus. Duties include oversight responsibility for all financial, accounting and investing operations for the foundation. Incumbent serves as the Associate Treasurer of the UC Riverside Foundation while staffing the Finance & Investment Committee and the Audit Committee of the Foundation and, therefore, interacts regularly with key volunteer/donors involved with the Foundation. Position is responsible for carrying out all investment policies as established by the Board of Trustees and in accordance with applicable state and federal law, for endowments, expendable and trust funds. With a staff of two, position manages accounting and audit operations for the Foundation. Oversees proper management of highly complex planned gifts to the Foundation in conjunction with the executive director of UCR Foundation and Donor Relations. Oversees a comprehensive system of endowment management and reporting. Coordinates and services annual audit of UCRF records. Serves as primary contact with UCR's outside investment advisor(s) as well as with the UC Controller's office. Responsible for endowment gifts from inception (date gift is made) through ongoing reporting functions. Also serves as endowment administration manager for both Regents and Foundation endowments. Works closely with gift administration and fundraisers. Works with consultants to modernize system support to guarantee reporting is efficient and accurate.

Key Responsibilities

Develops, implements and/or maintains one or a combination of general accounting systems.
  • Responsible for a system which provides for the overall management, safeguarding, and enhancement of the Foundation's endowment, current and trust fund assets through the timely and cost effective management of all investment portfolios in accordance with Board policy. Responsible for development and maintenance of a complete system of internal controls and checks to ensure integrity, accuracy, and safeguarding of the assets through investment and accounting means.

  • Prepare reports to the UC Office of the President, to the UC Chief Investment Officer's Office and to the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) on the Foundation's investment assets, performance and activity. Prepare annual report to UCOP and campus vice chancellors regarding status of campus endowment funds. Prepare UCR private support and support group reports for the UC Office of the President.

Under supervision of manager/supervisor, may have responsibility for coordinating the collection of information for Unrelated Business Income Taxes (UBIT), preparing summary schedules, and answering questions from departments or coordinating resolution of issues involving other departments or functions.

Responsible for overseeing and improving a system to manage, administer, and report to the Committees of the Board of Trustees on the ever growing investment assets of the Foundation. Provide direction over all day-to-day accounting operations of the corporation. Oversight responsibility for the preparation, integrity, and objectivity of the financial statements and all other financial information submitted to the Foundation Board, University officials, fund financial managers, and others. Responsible for maintaining an effective internal accounting control system and accurate and reliable accounting records; assist AVC-UAA in establishing and administering the Foundation's annual operating budget.

Responsible for endowment administration management for all Foundation and Regents endowments. Responsible for providing endowment information to all relevant constituencies. Responsible for system in perpetuity, primary source for financial data regarding endowment, and carrying out UCOP, Regents, and Foundation policy regarding endowment administration. Direct the Foundation's and campus trust accounting and administration program; the management of separate annuity and unitrusts. Ensure compliance with laws regarding trust administration and standards of fiduciary care.
