Custom Scope
Experienced leader for a non-credited recreational or sports program. Designs, creates, implements and instructs recreational programs for participants of all ages. Required to demonstrate considerable discretion, initiative and independence to resolve issues and perform other duties as assigned.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Ropes and Youth Programs, the Coordinator assists in the planning, operations, management, supervision and evaluation of the Ropes Program. These areas include the Challenge Course, Mobile Rock Wall, and the Indoor Rock Climbing Wall. Major responsibilities include assisting in planning and implementing programs, curricula and activities, teaching and mentoring student leaders, route setting, human interactions, conducting training and documenting. The coordinator will be responsible to maintain equipment, recommend orders for replacement items and help inspect facilities for safety and risk.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Designs, plans, organizes and conducts complex recreational activity classes and/or workshops programs for program participants, individually or in groups.
  • Assists in developing plans and implementation for large and small events within the Ropes Program, inclusive of over 150 Challenge Course events and 75+ Mobile Rock Wall events as well as various climbing clinics and competitions.

Keeps current on methods of instruction, techniques and skills through continuing education and peer review programs.

Utilizes and may provide guidance and instruction to other program instructors on best practices, procedures, methods and techniques on program activities.
  • Assists with the selection, supervision, development and evaluation of student employees. Will also assist with reviewing student time sheets for accuracy.

Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.

Oversees inventory, storage, and maintenance of sports and recreational equipment, including items of significant value. Interacts with program participants in a positive manner.
  • Assists in reviewing equipment/facility software to recommend repairs/replacements. Also responsible to maintain scheduling software related to facility usage.

  • Maintains documentation for income-driven events. Also responsible for the maintenance of risk and safety documentation including facility inspections, certifications, and maintenance reports.
