Generic Scope
Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Custom Scope
Supervises the work of landscape/groundskeeping employees. Receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Works on issues of limited scope. Directs subordinates to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility.

Department Custom Scope
The purpose of this position is directing the R'Garden Program in consultation with the Advisory Committee. The 4.5 acre community garden site is centrally located in the University and will showcase sustainable agriculture through University-level courses, research, service learning, community events, and a variety of student-led initiatives. The University community, local community groups, organizations, and schools will participate in garden activities.

  • Oversee the day to day activities of the interns.

Plans, organizes and directs routine landscape/groundskeeping operations.

Trains and supervises the landscape/groundskeeping staff to maintain an orderly, safe, and efficient grounds operation.
  • Responsible for monthly safety training meetings, compliance of the University of California required courses, and maintaining Blue Card Training.

Uses knowledge in the care and use of power equipment and other landscape/groundskeeping tools.

Ensures safety, hazardous materials and landscape/groundskeeping policies and procedures are adhered to.

Maintains proper inventory needs and purchase inventory.

Responsible for performance management.

Maintains scheduling within prescribed budgetary guidelines.

May assist with budget planning and maintenance.
  • Plans fundraising events, identify funding and grant opportunities, assists in writing proposals. Develops annual reports documenting activities.

May be responsible for coordinating programs (water abatement, weed abatement & irrigation) with various municipalities, governmental organization etc.
