The UCR School of Medicine Human Resources unit provides guidance, tools and processes that foster workforce effectiveness for our most valued asset - Our Employees. The incumbent in this position will provide guidance to student employees, staff employees, supervisors and managers in a variety of human resources functions (e.g., Recruitment and Retention, Records Management, Reporting); participates and coordinates HR employee engagement related programs; and provides academic, student, and staff payroll support.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Under general supervision screens resumes and applications and interviews applicants for entry level staff positions.
  • Provides support and guidance to supervisors in posting, screening resumes/applications and scheduling interviews for student positions. Partners with hiring supervisors/managers in making recommendations for search committee members and schedules interviews.

Applies professional HR concepts when counseling employees concerning work-related issues of moderate scope and complexity and conducts termination interviews.

Provides guidance to supervisors and managers in developing job descriptions, facilitating benefits communications, and providing guidance on compensation programs, personnel policies, and procedures.
  • Includes guidance and support for undergraduate and graduate student administration, staff, faculty, medical residents, and other academics. Participates in the onboarding of new faculty, staff, students, medical residents, and periodically presents on specific processes.

Under general supervision provides advice and counsel to client groups according to established human resources policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for the unit.

Conducts HR trends analyses and helps develop resulting recommendations.
  • Conducts data analysis on HR data such as compensation, classification, employment, employee relations, and/or salary grades etc.. as directed. Confirms accuracy and integrity of all data entered. Researches/reports on data discrepancies. Delivers routine daily/weekly/monthly reporting and responds to basic to intermediate ad hoc data requests.

Manages sensitive and confidential information and effectively and collaboratively interacts with client groups.
  • Organizes and files confidential personnel documents in hard copy paper personnel files and electronic files.

Under general supervision, develops professional development tracking systems and reports for client groups.
  • Tracks and verifies eligibility for the SOM professional development program, and other programs, and reconciles on a monthly/quarterly basis.

Provides academic, staff and student HRIS\payroll coordination; serves as a liaison between the SOM HR unit and the Shared Services Center for processing of transactions related to employee job data and payroll. Audit data on a regular basis to ensure employees have received accurate and proper pay. Research UC policies and procedures to resolve payroll issues and process corrections.

Participates on School of Medicine and campus-wide workgroups as required, and contributes to the development of training materials. Executes and coordinates office operations such as office meetings, appointments, and/or special events.
