Custom Scope
Provides substantial expertise within the University in a given legal specialty. Independently handles a full range of legal matters and projects, to include the most complex and that of substantial importance and impact. Interprets complex facts and the law in areas of high ambiguity. Provides functional advice, training and/or guidance to less-experienced attorneys. May act as a liaison with outside counsel, and/or represent the University in complex litigation. |
Department Custom Scope
Under the direction of the Chief Campus Counsel. Provides high level and recognized expertise to UCR leadership and other campus constituents, collaborates on system-wide initiatives with other lawyers in the Office of the President and at other UC campuses. Interprets complex facts and law in areas of high ambiguity. Advises and supports contract officers in negotiations, due diligence and drafting of definitive agreements, and monitors outside counsel in connection with more complex transactions. Provides legal advice to risk managers, human resources and compliance officers. Assures compliance in supported affiliations with applicable law and regulation including federal and state fraud and abuse laws, antitrust laws, and laws governing tax-exempt organizations and bonds. Manages internal legal investigations and provides legal support to independent/non-privileged internal compliance and misconduct proceedings. |
