Department Custom Scope
Under the general direction of the Director of Case Management, the Case Manager plans, develops, organizes, implements and evaluates a full range of case management services for UC Riverside students; with an emphasis on identifying resources to address students medical, psychological, psychiatric, social, financial and academic needs. Student Affairs Case Management is a member of the Health and Psychological Student Services cluster of the Division of Student Affairs and is committed to supporting student success through optimization of emotional and physical health, through direct service, education, and provision of resources and referrals.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Assesses clients and determines appropriate therapeutic approach in consultation with other behavioral health professionals as appropriate.
  • Provides case management and non-clinical counseling to UCR students with an emphasis on identifying and coordinating resources to address students' psychological, social, financial, and academic needs. Assists students in formulating strategies leading to improvement and resolution of barriers to success. Assists student in problem solving strategies, and navigating complex University processes. Provides crisis management and follow-up support for students who have a psychiatric hospitalization. Other duties as assigned.

Arranges for therapeutic interventions for clients with serious disturbance problems.
  • Consults and coordinates with UCR Police Department, the Dean of Students, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Residential Life, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity Program, Student Disability Resource Center, among other campus partners and other members of the UCR Critical Student Incident Team in responding to critical student incidents.

Leads educational workshops, support groups and/or retreats for center.
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs partners and particular those within the Health and Wellness Services cluster, in development of preventive and promotional programs and materials in areas of suicide awareness, workings with Distressed or Distressing Students, and d other mental health education issues for student, staff and/or faculty audiences.

May provide management consultation or coaching to department managers.
  • Provides consultation or coaching to staff and faculty regarding distressed and distressing students.Leads campus in providing staff and faculty with trainings in how to provide appropriate resources and support for students in distress.

Consults and collaborate regularly with campus Mental Health and Health Care providers to support and co-manage care for students with high risk mental and physical health conditions, and assist with referrals to community providers. Creates and maintains relationships with community providers, agencies, and services, to ensure effective response to student needs, and a smooth transition of care.

Professiona Documentation and Case Management: Completes accurate and concise documentation for all student contacts in compliance with ethical, professional and legal practice.
