Department Custom Scope
The Director of Annual Giving (DAG) leads the strategic planning, implementation, and continuation of multi-channel annual giving campaigns that increase contributions and participation from alumni/ae, parents, and other friends of the University. Under the direct leadership of the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Prospect Research the DAG works with campus partners to design and execute a dynamic annual giving program informed by cutting-edge predictive data analytics and best practices of both UC Riverside and the annual giving community-at-large. The DAG will work with the organizational budget to provide Senior Leadership with annual giving analyses, reports, and recommendations. This position requires a strong commitment to philanthropy, effective communication and writing skills, prospect research and organizational skills, and knowledge of annual giving best practices, trends, and technology. Works with and supervises the Associate Director of Annual Giving. Over time the incumbent may carry a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and donors.

  • The incumbent will develop a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, crowdfunding, the Chancellor's Associate program, and Day of Giving, all focused on shaping a tradition of sustainable annual support. Works with and supervises the Associate Director of Annual Giving.

Conceives, plans and implements large-scale local, regional and national alumni events. Supervises, volunteers, recruits and other event staff to ensure successful outcomes.

Evaluates programs using financial feasibility studies and market research including planning and evaluating annual solicitation programs and making recommendations for improvement. Collaborate with Unit Development Officers to establish unit-based annual fund goals and objectives and new programs based upon own assessment of needs. Assist units on campus to develop long-term and comprehensive annual giving programs that include the following constituents: students, parents, community friends, and alumni to promote the importance of annual giving.

Responsible for the development of a strategy for the successful implementation of the annual giving program; including coordination of annual appeals/direct mail, Day of Giving, and the Chancellor's Associate program. Responsible for budget development and oversight to ensure that annual giving programs are cost effective and adhere to fiscal requirements.

Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about strategic fundraising and programmatic activities in general and in particular as it applies to UC Riverside. Demonstrated ability to compose business correspondence to donors and others in a very tactful yet informative manner. Required
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive campus-wide program for annual gifts, establishing goals and objectives that translate into annual operating plans and appropriate staff assignments. Required
