Department Custom Scope
This position will contribute to UCR Health's growth and success by serving as the technical expert for the use of Tableau's business intelligence (BI) solution using data extracts from Epic EMR and other data sources. This will include serving as the expert in using Tableau BI product set to establish high impact performance analytic reports and dashboards relating to clinical operations. Additionally, the incumbent may also participate in developing analytic work products using tools such as BI Cognos. Specifically, will work with SOM IT, other analysts, end users, data owners, and BI and data management professionals to perform work.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Consults with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. Writes queries, develops report templates, and dashboards.
  • Work closely with functional business analysts to design and develop efficient and standards-based BI solutions using Tableaus BI products that satisfy business information reporting needs

Performs predictive analysis and forecasting to provide information that supports organizational goals. Mines data to quantify relationships and identify issues warranting further analysis.

Conducts industry benchmarking analysis and develops quantitiative business cases. Presents recommendations to managers.
  • Research and stay abreast of the latest trends in BI technologies and work with vendors to carry out product evaluations and proof-of-concepts. Lead the tuning and performance improvement of Tableau BI solutions.

Identifies and analyzes errors and problems for end users, developing and applying functional solutions and/or conducting specific training as needed.

Conducts on-going analyses of data sources and data sets. Identifies issues and collaborates on developing solutions to data management challenges.
  • Manages and maintains the Tableau server and desktop developer infrastructure and ensure that it is up-to-date and has high availability and performance. Collaborate with data modelers and data integration architects/developers to establish end-to-end data and information delivery architecture.

Participates in developing and/or delivering curriculum for end user training to ensure user competence, data access, and optimal performance of BI tools and processes.

Serves on internal committees and participates on cross-functional teams to solve business, process, service and/systems issues.
  • Champion and educate business and information technology staff on the use of the BI technologies for strategic and tactical decision making.

Serve as a technical leader and advisor to information technology and departmental BI developers on the Tableau BI product set. Lead the development of BI solution prototypes that demonstrate performance and usability to business and IT stakeholders Configure and utilize Tableau's BI solution set to meet BI objectives. Oversee of the design and implementation of Tableau BI solutions including data acquisition process design, use of BI technology features and functions, business rules processing, and data aggregation and summarization techniques.

Take technical ownership of the implementation of Tableau BI solution set, overseeing: daily support, security, access control, upgrades patching end-users, technical training usage and resource monitoring. Ensure the Tableau infrastructure conforms to security standards and that appropriate access controls are in place.
