Custom Scope
Learns to use professional concepts to conduct and/or support a variety of projects related to the University of sustainability efforts. Works on problems of limited scope. Acquires skills to fully analyze issues and problems, gathers data and information, finds and evaluates alternatives and makes sound recommendations.

Department Custom Scope
Under the direct supervision of the Sustainability Officer, the Sustainability Program Coordinator will assist with the coordination of a wide range of campus-wide plans and projects related to campus sustainability. The incumbent will assist in the coordination of Working Groups including, Green Building Design, Clean Energy, Climate Protection, Sustainable Transportation, Sustainable Building Operations, Zero Waste, Procurement, Sustainable Food, and Sustainable Water Use. This position will assist with programs that result in institutional change through physical projects and will work with a variety of campus stakeholders to advance projects that integrate sustainability. The incumbent will participate in the selection process and assist in the supervision of student staff and help foster a culture of sustainability on campus that embraces diverse, multicultural notions of caring for the environment.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Learns to apply professional concepts to perform professional entry analysis of data and systems pertaining to projects and programs of limited scope and complexity that are related to sustainability.
  • Assist with project implementation by coordinating with UC, Riverside campus constituents and outside agencies to ensure that the campus is in compliance with UC Sustainability policy for all programs, including, but not limited to: Green Buildings, Clean Energy, Climate Protection, Transportation, Building Operations, Zero Waste, Sustainable Food, and Water Use. Will assist with the assessment of data provided by campus departments to ensure that the campus is meeting sustainability goals.

Learns to collect and analyze sustainability data for reporting to internal or external constituents. Assist in layout and design of sustainability report.
  • Assist with data gathering from necessary campus departments for a variety of reports including, but not limited to: UC Office of the President, UCR, the Association for the advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), and the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). Assist with data analysis, content, and design of reports.

Learns to develop communication tools to increase awareness and educate various departments at locations regarding sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist with educational campaigns for the campus regarding sustainability for students, staff, faculty, and the public.

Basic knowledge of environmental sustainability and policy. Required

Basic knowledge of sustainability concepts and practices, including LEED systems, climate action plans, food service systems, procurement, and waste management practices. Required
