Custom Scope
Advanced leader for large, complex and diverse non-credited recreational or sports program(s), including responsibility for programmatic and budget oversight and planning. Regularly works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Typically leads or supervises other staff or students.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Associate Recreation Director- Programs, the incumbent is a critical member of the Recreation programming team responsible for the development, management, implementation, oversight and daily operations of the UCR Recreation Ropes Programs which includes the Challenge Course, Mobile Rock Wall and "The Rock" an indoor rock climbing and bouldering facility. Important duties include risk management, staffing, program development and implementation, oversight of facilities maintenance, and supervision of staff. Incumbent will work closely with departmental, divisional, campus, and community partners to ensure the provision of client service based programming that meets the needs of and is inline with departmental, divisional, and campus goals and mission.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Master's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science or a related field from an accredited institution. Preferred

Key Responsibilities

Develops, schedules and makes programmatic and budget recommendations for highly diverse and complex programs and events. Performs short and long term planning for recreational program(s) and/or activities.

Coordinates a variety of social, cultural, recreational and physical activities that are offered on a short-term or intermittent basis.

Proposes updates/revisions to standard operating procedures and guidelines. Conducts periodic reviews of historical and statistical records and standings.

Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.
  • Provide excellent customer service to customers and potential customers, resolve issues and conflicts effectively and efficiently.

Has overall responsibility for equipment, facilities and budget for a large operational program. Coordinates all facility usage.
  • Develop and monitor budget, create contracts, invoices, collect payments and maintain records for facility usage. Perform and supervise procurement of supplies and equipment. Might be expected to drive university vehicles while towing the mobile rock wall.

Selects, supervises and evaluates student employees, student officials and referees. Assists in development and implementation of comprehensive student employee training program.
  • Also responsible for the hiring, training and being a mentor for the coordinator and student employees. Conduct annual evaluations for all staff.

Enforces program policies and procedures. Conducts ongoing evaluation of recreational programs to ensure compliance with university and program objectives.

Coordinates professional and student staff to develop and implement publicity and promotional programs. Supports design, maintenance and ongoing use of comprehensive website for all program participants.
  • Supports and encourages staff to attend conferences for professional growth and bring back new ideas.

Researches, develops and implements activity-specific risk management guidelines for all programs.
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive risk management for the program including policies and procedures, emergency procedures, safety training, program documentation such as operation manuals, liability waivers, accident reports, incident reports and needs assessments. Schedule and document annual inspections for all equipment and facilities.

As the department's technical leader, regularly provides guidance to others regarding the program's specifics, events and/or activities.

Work in collaboration with other departments on campus to develop and implement a client service based child care program. Maintain all confidentiality policies for participants.
