Generic Scope
Oversees through subordinate managers a large department or multiple smaller units, OR manages a highly specialized technical function/team. Has significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for a program with organization-wide impact.

Custom Scope
Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have campus-wide, medical center or Office of the President effect. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

Department Custom Scope
As a member of the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) Leadership team, the Executive Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for the effective and efficient operational support of all third party and internally managed IT systems used to support campus IT services. The Executive Director of Systems Engineering provides leadership for the Systems Engineering, Systems Operations and Application Operations teams as well as the Lead Systems Architect. As a member of the ITS Leadership team, the role contributes to the development and execution of ITS strategy and ensures its alignment with the needs of the campus. The salary offer will be commensurate with experience within the budgeted range of $140,000 to $150,000.

Key Responsibilities

Provides direction and guidance to staff members, within the latitude of established HR and campus policies.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Systems Engineering, Systems Operations and Application Operations teams as well as the Lead Enterprise Architect. Ensures that IT infrastructure best practices are being followed and directs teams to improve services delivery when necessary.

In conjunction with subordinate managers, manages the analysis of the needs of functional departments and helps to establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information processing systems.
  • Understand the needs of ITS functional partners in Auxiliaries, Student Affairs, Business and Administrative Services and Enrollment Services to ensure that currently deployed systems services are performing properly and meeting their needs.

Coordinates with functional departments involved in system requirements, techniques, and controls.
