Department Custom Scope
The UCR School of Medicine Pipeline Programs is seeking an experienced Health Coach Program Specialist to provide K-12, undergraduate, and postbaccalaureate students with opportunities to learn about and experience medicine, social determinants of health, health disparities, and service in medically underserved communities. The incumbent's primary responsibility is to coordinate the Health Coach Program, a joint program between the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine and Riverside University Health System (RUHS). As coordinator of the Health Coach Program (HCP), the incumbent is responsible for developing an annual outreach plan to recruit undergraduate student volunteers to serve as health coaches. The incumbent will assist Pipeline Programs students directly with educational program development and advising them on their community health education projects in Mini Medical School, Future Physician Leaders, Medical Leaders of Tomorrow, Premedical Postbaccalaureate Program and other SOM Pipeline Programs. *Please note that this is a 2 year career position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2021, with the possibility of being extended, contingent upon available funding.

Assesses the effectiveness of course content and training techniques for individual programs.
  • Develops community health education projects/activities. Supports students with course content and coaching on the presentation of the projects in academic and community settings.

Assesses effectiveness of class/counseling content, and revises as needed.
  • The incumbent will assist Pipeline Programs students directly with educational program development and advising for their community health education projects in Mini Medical School, Future Physician Leaders, Medical Leaders of Tomorrow, Premedical Postbaccalaureate Program and other SOM Pipeline Programs. Conducts bi-weekly meetings with health coaches and tracks volunteer hours. Identifies a small team of health coaches to become Site Leads who act as mentors and communicate weekly site progress to the Coordinator.

Develops, secures, and maintains any equipment or instructional materials needed to conduct classes.

Assists in promoting health education components to physicians, staff, and patients through meeting presentations, printed promotional material, etc.
  • Delivers informational sessions and creates marketing materials for recruitment of health coaches. Communicates with key stakeholders through weekly conference calls and convenes quarterly meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Develops, implements and evaluates effectiveness of health promotion/education programs.
  • Collaborates with RUHS staff and clinicians to schedule and deliver training for health coaches. Identifies, develops and implements events to enhance recruitment and yield. Prepares and analyzes the reports on program outcomes, outreach efforts and student outcomes. Evaluates effectiveness and provide appropriate recommendations on programs. Oversees health coach evaluations, which is a joint process between UCR SOM Office for Assessment and Evaluation and RUHS. Responsible for submission of quarterly, mid-year and annual performance reports to the department and partners.

Develops an outreach plan to recruit undergraduate student volunteers annually to serve as health coaches. Oversees online health coach application process, applicant screening and interview process. Recruits interviewers and participates in interviewing process. Facilitates recruitment of physician mentors, invites guest speakers, and supports event planning and oversight. Monitors and supervises health coaches. Oversees scheduling assignments in collaboration with RUHS.
