Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Annual Giving & Constituent Research & Development, the Director of Constituent Research & Development (CRD) provides strategic direction and management for the office of Constituent Research & Development. The research office has primary responsibility for providing in-depth background information on a wide variety of constituents for use by the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, faculty, and the development department. Additional responsibilities include initiating proactive research, data mining, and analytics that will produce a pipeline of prospects for future qualification, cultivation, and solicitation, in support of UC Riverside. The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of the research office, including staff supervision, strategic direction, and planning for work products and workloads, human resources, resource acquisition (both independently and in coordination with others), and coordination with all offices using the services of the research office. This position is critical to the success of UC Riverside's overall fundraising efforts, providing services to the entire campus. By identifying, prioritizing, and focusing the efforts of Development staff on well-defined pools of prospects, the research office enables efficiency in fundraising and ensures philanthropic goals are met.

Manages staff to achieve department objectives through defining individual goals and ensuring work meets quality and timeline requirements.
  • Supervise and take part in the production of critical analyses of major gift prospects for senior administrators including the Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Associate Vice Chancellors for Development and central and campus-based fundraisers. Develops unit standards, supervises and participates in providing assessments of giving capability and inclination, based on the interpretation and synthesis of various sources, industry publications, corporate records, annual reports, news, stock reports and foundation documents.

Oversees daily operations of prospect research department to ensure compliance, consistency, and effective collaborations. Independently resolves departmental issues within the latitude of guidelines and policies.
  • The Director will be responsible for assigning and supporting Development client portfolios and will be responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing new and existing donors and prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation. The Director is responsible for policy and procedure development and relationship-based research efforts to support University Advancement's development goals and partnerships. The Director is proactive in expanding the prospect pool and also responsive to Development Officer requests across units to maximize fundraising results.

Provides input for short and long range fundraising goals. Suggests ways to improve operations.
  • By using data to inform portfolio composition and flow as well as to guide regional and unit prospect assignments, the Director will manage staff and program to enhance development officer effectiveness. The Director will provide vital work to move the Development Office towards a data-informed culture. The incumbent works closely with development officers on prospect strategy, as well as with the Development Office leadership team to develop practical solutions for fundraising priorities.
