Resolves a wide range of business processes, system functionality, implementation issues and system and software integration issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods and techniques to obtain results. Gives technical presentations to associated team and other technical units. Evaluates new technologies including performing moderate to complex cost/benefit analyses. May lead a team of systems/infrastructure professionals.

Department Custom Scope
The Infrastructure Systems Engineer is a technical expert focused on the virtualized server infrastructure, system hardware, cloud systems, storage arrays, capacity management, firewalls, public key infrastructure, certificate management, security, disaster recovery/planning/simulation, re-engineering legacy systems for the cloud, rapid response to system anomalies, and related mission-critical systems efforts. The expertise provided will be dedicated to the library and its areas of specialization, and the integration of technology into future library innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Plans, designs, develops, modifies, and deploys complex systems integration solutions and engineers complex solutions to address integration of vendor, community source, and locally developed hardware and/or software systems and subsystems to achieve an integrated implementation.
  • Responsible for virtualized/physical/cloud servers, and foundational infrastructure services such as virtual/physical networks, storage systems, rack switches and UPS systems.

Analyzes and assesses potential products during early project phases to identify components which can be integrated to achieve high level system objectives. Identifies, evaluates, recommends and implements changes to existing tools, or new tools needed, may research or coordinate with venders to identify solutions.
  • Manage projects, meet time frames, and work effectively and tactfully with peers and colleagues.

Acquires and utilizes detailed business process knowledge in order to address technical objectives and address all phases of the business process and technical life-cycle.
  • Responsible for backup and recovery operations, planning, support, and simulation. Adapt skillsets to meet the evolving technology needs of the organization.

Leads technical collaboration teams on complex system interconnectivity concepts, design, and testing requirements. Understands and organizes the requirements and changes, and advises system and architecture groups on incorporating needed requirements and implement testing of completed requirements.
  • Manage and support a diverse range of systems, including multimedia services, digital content management, issue tracking, identity management, and directory services. Collaborate with campus teams where commonality and economies of scale may be leveraged.

Develops complex monitoring protocols across multiple networks and platforms, including traffic and usage, performance of the system, metric testing, troubleshooting and identification of metric issues and system optimization for complex multi-platform environments.
  • Responsible for system migrations, upgrades, monitoring, performance optimization, troubleshooting, and remediation of anomalies. Capacity management for on-premise and cloud systems, including processor, memory, network, storage, and related constraints.

Provides configuration management support. Develops and maintains the build environment, the source code control system and the issue tracking systems. Creates and tests builds, resolves issues, applies labels to file and communicates build status. Responsible for building scripts and installation procedures and develops and maintains an automated build process with automatic notification of build and unit test failure problems to responsible engineers. Responsible for maintaining project software and documentation inventory and configuration baselines.

Provides technical support and advanced knowledge of systems integration for EDI database analysis, design, and operations and ensures security of data, systems and networks.
  • This includes security of the on-premise and cloud infrastructure, including public key infrastructure, digital certificates, encryption, patch management, firewall management, and risk assessments. Ensure system documentation is current, accurate, clear, and concise. Work in concert with the team's operating procedures.

Demonstrated knowledge of VMware, Windows, Linux, Active Directory, backup/recovery tools, performance optimization, and networking (VLAN, DMZ, VPN, DHCP). Required
Demonstrated ability to support media server systems, write scripts, manage, learn/evaluate new technologies, maintain technical documentation, manage projects, perform to schedule, and adapt skillsets to evolving technology needs. Required

Demonstrated experience with AWS infrastructure, cloud migrations, Veeam, PKI and MS Certificate Authority, MS SQL, MySQL/MariaDB, cybersecurity risk assessments, security tools. Industry recognized, verifiable, and proctored technology certifications, such as VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSE/MCITP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP. Preferred
