Writes or edits a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of printed and online material, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives.

Department Custom Scope
Assist in the publicity and promotion of 17 Division I varsity sports with the Big West Conference with a comprehensive approach which will elevate and advance the program. Under the supervision of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, incumbent will be responsible for the media coverage of assigned sports.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Under limited supervision, researches, writes and/or edits material for a variety of publications for internal and external audiences, consulting with clients as necessary.
  • Updates statistics, schedules, rosters, bios and other pertinent information on gohighlanders.com, writes pregame stories, including game notes. Writes, posts and distributes postgame stories and final results of UC Riverside athletics events to media outlets and social media. Investigates and utilizes cutting edge technology to improve the distribution of information from and promotion of UCR Athletics. Nominates and promotes athletes for regional and national awards.

Oversees and supervises interns and student-staff . Trains and works with interns and student staff.

Acts as spokesperson on topics related to the UCR Athletics Department in absence of the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications. Initiates contact with local and national print, radio and television media representatives. Maintains an overall positive relationship with the media. Pitches and solicits stories on UCR Athletics. Responds to requests from the media. Makes arrangements for media visitation, interviews with student-athletes, coaches and staff. Coordinates media relations at select home events. Assists with coordination of visits by national and regional television broadcasts. Disseminates information throughout all social media platforms.

Photography: Helps maintain a photo library of athletics department personnel. Takes head shots of student-athletes. Takes photographs at select events as assigned. Labels, uploads and distributes photos to gohighlanders.com, social media and other outlets. Shoots, edits, and occasionally provides voiceover work for preseason preview videos, postgame highlight videos, and interview videos with student-athletes and coaches.
