Generic Scope
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Custom Scope
Supervises Student Life & Development Specialists and support staff, and administers a component of a Student Affairs or Student Life program. Independently oversees day-to-day operations, and determines goals and performance expectations of subordinates. Makes recommends concerning improvements of program/function to manager.

Department Custom Scope
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health, Counseling and Wellness, the incumbent manages all aspects of the Basic Needs Initiative (BNI) programs and services. This includes the oversight of on-campus food insecurity programs and housing instability (homelessness) services, management tools, annual state reporting, managing timelines and budget for program enhancements, interfacing with functional and technical departments, drafting documents and presentations, editing web content, developing and executing pilot and assessment plans, communicating regularly with campus and stakeholder contacts, assessing fidelity and impact of programs, identifying gaps in services and programs, quality assurance, training and documentation and troubleshooting issues. The incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively with managers and committees including: Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, UC Systemwide Basic Needs Points of Contact, Student Health Center, Student Mental Health, Health Promotion, UC Regents Office Leadership, Financial Aid campus leaders, Graduate Deans and department, State University Registrars (SUR), Financial Aid Directors, Extended Education and campus-based institutional research directors. The incumbent should have a strong research and evaluation knowledge, as well as hands-on experience implementing best practices related to basic needs.

Solves the most complex and sensitive issues arising in Student Affairs/Life & Development specialization.

Develop and enhance community partnerships by attending and participating in community meetings, UC Regent and legislative briefings, coordinating with campus teams and lead campuses, prioritizing and monitoring gaps and integration of safety-net resources, monitoring contracts and resource allocations, documenting and reporting on project progress, facilitating project-related meetings, evaluating campus technical and functional readiness.

Supports data analysis and research evaluation for the purpose of conference presentations and publications, establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations.
