Department Custom Scope
The assistant director for stewardship and donor communications is an integral member of UCR's Donor Relations program and central advancement team. This position is responsible for implementing a creative and engaging donor correspondence, acknowledgement and fund stewardship program. In close coordination/collaboration with Stewardship and Donor Relations team members, campus partners and influencing departments/units, the incumbent will recommend, develop, and implement programs dedicated to thanking, informing, and engaging UCR's key donor constituencies (past, current and future donors, alumni, community members, faculty, staff and students). The assistant director for stewardship and donor communications provides high level written and oral communications support when requested to further the efforts of all donor stewardship and engagement activities on behalf of Development and University Advancement.

Develops and implements programs, events and/or communication strategies designed to inform alumni and other key constituencies of institutional programs, activities, policies, and practices; constituencies may include the general public, prospective students, students, alumni, parents, donors, campus visitors, government and/or community representatives,.
  • Donor Acknowledgements: Assists team members with tracking, facilitating, and carrying out leadership annual giving, consecutive giving and cumulative giving acknowledgement, stewardship, and recognition programming. Assists with specialized and confidential correspondence to donors and potential donors as needed. Manages the development, production, and disbursement of annual stewardship communications.

Philanthropic Communications: Aligning with the UCR brand and in coordination with the executive director of Foundation and Donor Relations, the director of Stewardship and Donor Relations as well as Marketing and Communications partners, this position develops and implements long- and short-term stewardship communications strategies as well as programs designed to inform, thank, and engage key donor constituencies of the university and the UCR Foundation, including but not limited to high-level donors and prospects, first time donors, foundation trustees, community members, alumni, faculty, staff and students. Within the scope of philanthropic communications, this position: researches various topics and gathers relevant data to inform unit strategic plans, keeping management informed as necessary and providing input as required, ensures production of high-quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints, and identifies specific stewardship communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements. Fund Reporting: Assists Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations with stewardship tracking and reporting for endowed funds and awards. Based on research and informational updates, helps maintain data for existing and future endowed funds (current recipients, donor information, fund history, purpose and guidelines, UCR contact, etc.); using existing database systems, tracks all reporting requirements and stewardship responsibilities. Advises and consults with colleges and schools via development officers regarding all aspects of fund reporting including strategies that effectively deliver the desired message and timely information to donors about endowed and significant current-use funds.

Donor Recognition: Works closely with UCR partners and the Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations to evaluate, coordinate, and execute donor recognition communication, physical recognition displays, event materials, and other donor stories to leverage university communication channels.

Campus Stewardship: In close coordination with the director of Stewardship and Donor Relations, assists in the implementation of programs and/or events (recognition societies, student ambassador program, stewardship events, etc.) designed to inform alumni and other key constituencies of institutional programs, activities, policies, and practices; constituencies may include the general public, prospective students, students, alumni, parents, donors, UCR Foundation trustees, campus visitors, government and/or community representatives. Duties may include, staffing events, vetting data, attending meetings, taking notes, conducting interviews, employee training, and other duties as necessary.
