Custom Scope
Applies advanced database administration concepts and campus/medical center/OP, institutional and/or multi-institutional objectives to resolve highly complex issues of diverse scope where incumbent must assess business needs and technical considerations with minimal direction in order to complete database projects of advanced scope and complexity. Selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Implements database solutions from evaluation to implementation of large enterprise level hardware and software.

Department Custom Scope
Under the direction of the Manager of Database Engineering, the Oracle Database Engineer will provide oversight for direction of database technologies and disciplines, which include: database administration, database design, standards and procedures, and database development for an Oracle environment that optimizes systems reliability and performance for all the University's customers. This role will manage and deliver database design, performance tuning and hands on administration of server databases, as well as database tools and services supporting Oracle Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and business intelligence technologies including Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE). This position will require the ability to work with other Database Engineers, and with the developers in an effective manner. This position works with project and production support teams to plan and implement application and infrastructure requirements. The Oracle Database Engineer will also maintain all environments in support of development, testing, and production in accordance to Information Technology Solutions (ITS) architecture principles.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Applies advanced concepts in working on highly complex projects including all aspects of enterprise class database administration, including the management of structured and unstructured content. Initiates, designs and communicates with senior level personnel regarding database administration studies, summary reports and background material including approaches, trends and sources. Interacts with teams of advanced IT professionals as a proactive member. Provides software consulting for database performance and design.
  • Assist developers in creating efficient and well-designed data models that meet business requirements. Monitor database server performance and capacity, and recommend improvements as needed. Assist in the troubleshooting and performance tuning of Structured Query Language (SQL) and Structured Query Reporter (SQR) scripts.

Develops disaster recovery plans and tests, backup solutions and system security.
  • Plan, implement, and regularly test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity. Manage database security and access controls in production, test, and development environments to ensure data integrity

Create, deploy, and maintain operating system scripts/programs as needed to enable and automate database administration services. Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot a 24x7 production environment's database servers and associated infrastructure. Support installation and administration of vendor-supplied systems that are managed by the Data Base Administration (DBA) Group.

Ability to manage database replication with Data Guard. Required
Strong understanding of storage technologies, such as Storage Area Network (SAN), device-mapper multipath, and Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM). Required
Background in Banner, Peoplesoft, or other three-tier architectures using WebLogic server. Required
