Custom Scope
Functions as a resource and leader in a compliance specialty program or multiple programs. Assists in ensuring the location has comprehensive processes for investigations, and coordinated responses for compliance program(s) within purview. Ensures alignment with federal and state laws, and University policies and procedures. Provides guidance to other compliance professionals. Normally receives high level oversight on assignments with general instruction provided on new or more complex compliance work.

Department Custom Scope
The Assistant Director/Deputy Title IX Officer supports the programs and functions of the Office of Title IX, Equal Employment & Affirmative Action (Title IX/EEAA), within the Chief Compliance organization. Title IX/EEAA leads the campus's efforts to prevent and respond to all forms of sexual violence, discrimination and harassment and coordinates campus affirmative action programs. The position serves as the campus Deputy Title IX Officer, performing delegated Title IX Officer functions under the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) and serving as the Title IX Officer in the Officer's absence. The Assistant Director serves as a case resolution officer and investigator, particularly for complex or high-profile SVSH matters. The Assistant Director also helps coordinate and participates in training, education and outreach activities, collaborating with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, CARE, Human Resources and other campus partners, and to coordinate and support other equal opportunity and affirmative action programs.

Develops methods and seeks opportunities to increase manager and staff awareness of ethics and compliance programs and associated processes. Attends staff meetings, creates website tools and communications, solicits feedback and creates and delivers training programs.
  • Focus on VAWA education and awareness programs and training and outreach related to discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Fosters collaborative relationships with campus partners in Student Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion, HR and others.

Responds to high profile complaints or concerns. Participates or convenes committees or task forces in regards to issues with little precedence, requiring expedient and diplomatic action.

Conducts complex investigations of suspected and reported violations of laws and policies, including those with significant potential impact. Obtains legal opinions when appropriate to determine investigative activities. Liaison with investigators from other locations. Assists in structuring complex investigations, including identifying witnesses, policies, data resources and other evidence. Provides recommendations for resolution of issues.
  • Addresses internal and external complaints of discrimination and harassment, including under Title VII, Title VI, Title IX, ADA/Section 504, ADEA and other federal and state anti-discrimination laws and UC and campus policies. Advises management on appropriate interim and remedial actions. Conducts or oversees intake interviews, assessing and addressing immediate safety needs and interim measures and providing information regarding reporting options, resources, rights and process steps under applicable procedure(s).

Develops recommendations for policy revisions, identifying the benefits and ramifications. May provide leadership in obtaining input from key constituencies.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement in local procedures, protocols and practices. Collaborates with campus partners including campus counsel, Human Resources and Diversity & Inclusion on initiatives and activities.

Leads committees and workgroups as needed to address policy issues, complaint response systems, and educational programs. Is a resource for relevant federal and state laws, University policies, local procedures, department case history and political environments.
  • Leads Case Management Team meetings in the Title IX Officer's absence. Performs as part of a team with the LDO, investigators, and other CCO staff, participating in case review and serving on the Investigations Group as needed. Serves as a subject-matter expert in the UC SVSH Policy as well as policies and local procedures relating to discrimination, harassment and retaliation.

Supports the Director/Title IX Officer in the overall office mission, including the promotion of the UC values of respect and non-discrimination and the development and implementation of equal opportunity and affirmative action programs. May serve as a lead for the department in the Director's absence. Identifies opportunities for process improvement in local procedures, protocols and practices. Collaborates with campus partners including campus counsel, Human Resources and Diversity & Inclusion on initiatives and activities. Works with the Office of the President and other system colleagues to address complex system-wide issues with significant impact.
