Department Custom Scope
Under general direction, Pediatric Hospitalist specialists supervise and/or perform a full range of professional work in primary care medicine involving the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric patients at affiliate sites. This is a Per Diem appointment. Per Diem Physicians are hourly paid appointees whose primary purpose is clinical service. These appointments have a variable schedule and cannot exceed 43%. These appointments may be on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis as determined by the University. We expect to have open positions in both the Coachella Valley and San Bernardino affiliate hospitals. |

Direct Patient Care: Pediatric Hospitalists will engage in a full range of direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility within the hospitalist Program. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients currently in the hospital. 3. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team. 4. Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment. Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. | 15 |
Accurately documents needed information to bill for services by recording diagnosis codes and completing corresponding documentation.
