Generic Scope

Custom Scope
Independently oversees a moderately sized academic or research program and represents the program to outside organizations. Oversees all administrative operations, finance, human resources and facilities for program. Designs and develops major program components, and administers the full range of the program's operational requirements. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.

Department Custom Scope
The Research Director of the Center for Social Innovation (CSI) will work closely with the CSI Director, CSI faculty, and Research Manager to coordinate CSI research activities, serve as research lead on projects as needed, supervise the work of the Research Manager, and take the lead in coordinating research proposal writing and managing post-award grants.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Directs and administers an independent program with complete responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities.
  • Serve as research lead on projects as needed, particularly those that involve contracts with non-academic entities such as government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and philanthropic organizations. Lead and assist in the formulation of research design. Serve as a quality control check on CSI research activities and products. Work with the Research Manager to coordinate and support interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives.

Facilitates efforts of various departments, managers and outside constituencies to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration.

Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and revenue streams.
  • Research intra- and extra-mural funding opportunities, organize grant-writing activity, and manage Center grants. Research, prepare, and submit proposals for funding in coordination with the UCR contracts and grants office.

Research administration: Supervise the work of the Research Manager. Coordinate financial and research progress reporting. Coordinate with Sponsored Program Administration and post-award support personnel across academic units.

Participates in advanced program budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of program.
  • Manage CSI?s research budget, in coordination with the Director.

Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.
