Department Custom Scope
The Institute for Integrative Genome Biology at the University of California, Riverside is seeking a Staff Research Associate 2 in Analytical Chemistry and Metabolomics to work in the newly established Metabolomics Core Facility. This state-of-the art facility houses four mass spectrometers including quadrupole time-of-flight, triple quadrupole, and orbitrap instruments. Responsibilities will include tracking and processing of biological samples for LC-MS and GC-MS analysis according to protocol, method development and validation, and routine lab maintenance. Sample processing will include routine use and maintenance of standard lab equipment: analytical balance, pipettes, centrifuge, freeze-dryer, nitrogen evaporator, homogenizer, and vortex.

Education & Experience Requirements

Degree Requirement
M.S. in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, biochemistry, or related discipline. Preferred
B.S. in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, biochemistry, or related discipline. Required
Experience with UPLC/LC, GC, or MS instrumentation, operation and troubleshooting. Preferred
Experience with small molecule analysis or metabolomics/lipidomics. Preferred
Familiar with processing a variety of samples for MS analysis, including plant and animal tissue. Preferred

Metabolomics sample preparation including receiving, storing, and documenting biological samples. Preparation of samples for metabolite extraction, including freeze-drying and homogenization. Extracting metabolites from prepared samples according to protocol. Adherence to lab safety procedures. Detailed record keeping.
