Custom Scope
Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional to coordinate AV, instructional technology services and delivery of customer service. Provides consultative advice to clients on technical, media presentation methods, techniques and equipment and intellectual property issues in instructional and special event settings. Analyzes technical, system, service delivery and/or business processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Reports and recommends changes.

Department Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Chief Technology Officer, the Instructional Support Analyst is responsible for all medical education technology and support. Provides advice and guidance on new technology and in optimizing existing technology. The Instructional Support Analyst provides audio/video, clinical skills, learning management system (Blackboard), simulation and general information technology (IT) support to the school of medicine faculty, students and staff. This position is responsible for on-demand classroom/lab/special event technology support installed in classrooms, lecture hall, and problem based learning rooms. This position provides a high level of customer service; actively works to troubleshoot complex problems related to desktop hardware, classroom technology, and software. This position provides technical assistance in the support of inter-networking systems, multimedia, and videoconferencing in addition to providing extensive specialized training for clinical skills training and simulation support.

Key Responsibilities

Interviews and assesses client requirements for instructional technology and advises on appropriate technology to meet specific instructional activities. Provides consultative advice to clients on technical, media methods, techniques and equipment in order to enhance the quality of the presentation. Advises users on technical options. Plans and consults regarding the installation of new equipment and equipment upgrades.
  • Assist faculty on an individual basis who want to teach part of a course or an entire course in a distance-learning environment (video conferencing) to ensure technology use in each context is appropriate and effective. Install and test software and hardware as they relate to instructional support and the undergraduate curriculum. This can include any device (e.g., microscope) that can connect to a projector or display, which a faculty may want to use as part of the instruction.

Applies appropriate data collection methods to develop technical requirements for events and instruction. Develops standards, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent service delivery to clients. Develops user documentation, process improvements, or system design requirements. Coordinates special programs and projects in AV or instructional technology field, including media production, teaching with technology or web distribution. Works with a wide variety of media technologies, networks and computer hardware and software, applying appropriate solutions to non-standard problems.

As needed, will provide support to the helpdesk team to correct related issues and service request that involve new hardware and software. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.

Work with vendors to provide enhancements to existing classroom technology, clinical skills and simulation systems. Communicate with CTO and department team on user feedback, need of additional resources and training required for support of various multimedia technologies in the classrooms. Serve as an advisor and resource person to faculty and staff on matters concerning learning management support (Blackboard), and curriculum management support (New Innovations).

Applies project management concepts in combination with AV IT policies and procedures in determining technical support work flow. Analyzes and interprets intellectual property (IP) policy and law and ensures that media meets IP requirements. Evaluates external content for compliance with unit and content posting standards. Assists in researching and evaluating new technologies.
  • Attend training, workshops, lectures and conferences related to technology, clinical skills, simulation and other instructional support topics within the school of medicine
