Generic Scope
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Custom Scope
Supervises licensed clinicians and/or counselors providing counseling and assessment services, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy and/or testing. Assists in ensuring the quality of treatment delivery. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.

Department Custom Scope
The Assistant Director is a key member of the CAPS Leadership team and takes a direct role in the management of Counseling and Psychological Services day to day operations. This position will coordinate with the Manager of Quality and compliance to ensure that CAPS maintains high standards of excellence and compliance with accrediting bodies and quality control, including coordination of peer review activities, annual and reaccreditation reporting and satisfaction measures. Provides leadership for and participates actively in urgent care and after hours on-call schedules, and maintains a small caseload. Responds and guides and supports other clinicians in response to campus emergencies and crisis situations. This position directly supervises licensed and pre-licensed clinicians. Actively supports mental health outreach efforts; and serves on University committees. The CAPS department prioritizes working with students from marginalized communities including Black/African American, Latinx, Undocumented, Indigenous/First Nations, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multi-racial, and other students of color and various identities. Education & Experience Requirements

Master's degree in related area or equivalent experience. Required
Required doctorate degree (Psy.D or Ph.D) in clinical psychology or counseling Preferred

6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations including but not limited to Underrepresented Minority populations, African Diaspora, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, international, first-generation, veterans, student with disabilities, and LGBTQ+. Required
Minimum of 5 years experience providing clinical supervision and/or administrative supervision within a clinical setting Required
Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred

Licensed in a behavioral health counseling discipline. Preferred
Current valid licensure by the CA Board of Psychology OR current licensure in another state with a requirement to obtain CA licensure in accordance with the CA Board of Psychology requirements for continued practice in the state of California. Required

Ensures providers adhere to quality standards, internal policies and external regulations. Participates in development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • *Serves as a member of the CAPS management team * Assists Director with overall management of the department as well as in providing vision and creative leadership in design, development, marketing, implementation, evaluation and assessment of professional services designed to assist undergraduate and graduate students in their academic, career, personal and social development. *Assists/leads in recruitment and hiring efforts. * Works closely with Manager of Quality, Risk and Compliance to maintain CAPS high standards. * Oversees implementation of regular peer review process * Responsible for preparation of annual accreditation reporting and leads coordination of re-accreditation efforts (e.g. IACS) * Coordinates annual professional development activities and participates in provider training. * Supports the annual and ongoing updates in CAPS Policy and Procedures Manual

Overseas daily operations and monitors program workflow. May be responsible for a specialty program.
  • Assists with allocation and management of program resources. Ensures productivity goals are met. Suggests ways to increase efficiency and improve quality of care. Requests additional resources when necessary.

Direct clinical support. Provides counseling for a small caseload of clients, individual or group. Conducts intake assessments as needed. Provides telephone and in-person consultation.

Administrative / Direct Supervision: Manages the work of professional psychologists/pre-licensed clinicians; ensures quality of services of supervisees; * Trains, evaluates and disciplines supervisory staff members in accordance with professional standards for university counseling centers, ethical guidelines of the profession, laws of the state of California, and University policies and procedures. * Develops, encourages, promotes and monitors professional growth and staff development of supervisees (professional and student staff). * Assesses competency and conducts annual performance reviews for supervisees.

Outreach and Consultation: Provides active and visible outreach and consultation services to the UCR campus community representing CAPS interests. * Consults with students, staff, faculty, administration, parents, etc. in areas of expertise and in response to concerns about students. *Coordinate annual client satisfaction survey and provides leadership as to improvement efforts for community relations.
